Barbara ‘Barb’ Jean Meathrel
February 8, 2024
Peacefully at home with family by her side, on Thursday, February 8, 2024, Barbara Jean Meathrel passed in her 87th year. Barb was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, John (2022). Lovingly remembered and missed by her daughter, Brenda Stephenson (Gary), her son, Mike Meathrel (Susanne), and her grandchildren, Blake, Kayla (Ved), Melissa (Ryan) and Danielle (Nick). Predeceased by her parents Ruth and Jack Donohue. Barb was born in St. Stephen, New Brunswick, and later moved to London, where she met John and settled to raise her family. She was a past employee of the Eaton’s Department Store in the Westmount Mall. Barb will always be remembered for her passion for playing golf, both at the Thames Valley GC, and at Bluewater GC at their summer residence in Bayfield. A feisty competitor, she preferred to play from the “men’s tees”. Barb loved spending time with her family, especially hosting the many family dinners. She is renowned for her special baked beans and shortbread cookies recipes.
Many thanks to Dr. Debbie Norrie and her staff for the exceptional care that Barb received over the years. The family is planning a private Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Barb are asked to consider the Alzheimer Society Southwest Partners.
