Margaret ten Haaf

November 2, 2023

After a beautiful life filled with love, family, friends and adventure, the family of Margaretha (Greet) ten Haaf–Janssen announce her passing on Thursday, November 2, 2023 with her family by her side, at the age of 99.

She was a beloved wife, mother, Oma, great-grandmother, daughter and sister to her seven brothers. Treasured wife of the late Albert. Margaret will always be lovingly remembered by her sons Harry (Darlene) and Rick (Suzanne), and her five grandchildren: Ashley (Darryl), Rochelle (Matt), Derek (Jess), Katie and Mark. She was also blessed with five great-grandchildren: Maeve, Weston, Hugh, Maya and Ellie. Loved by her many nieces and nephews in The Netherlands, some of whom she shared a very special bond with. Mom’s family both here in Canada and across the ocean was the center of her life, and brought her tremendous joy. Margaret is predeceased by her seven brothers: Cobus, Herman, Gerrit, Theo, Antoon, Bernard and Jan. She is also predeceased by Dad’s seven brothers and sister: Thij, Toon, Piet, Miet, Wim, Marinus, Harrie and Jan. Survived by one sister-in-law, Mietie, in Holland.

Mom and Dad were both born in Milsbeek, Limburg, The Netherlands, where they lived until they were married in 1953, and immigrated to Canada the same year. While building and living a great life in Canada, they remained close to our family in The Netherlands as family, friends, faith and community were the cornerstones of Mom and Dad’s life. Mom was a wonderful person who touched the lives of all who knew her.

Our family is grateful to all the caregivers at McCormick Home for their compassion, kindness and the excellent care they provided to Mom during the last four years of her life.

Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Sunday, November 12, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. Funeral Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Holy Family Roman Catholic Church, 777 Valetta Street, London on Monday, November 13, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Private family interment at St. Peters Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in the memory of Margaret are asked to consider the McCormick Care Foundation.

In dankbaarheid en liefde gedenken wij.

I (Frank) have known Greet since the sixties when just a little boy. The ten Haaf’s became good family friends then and remain so to this day. Mom went to visit Greet for coffee many times during the senior years. We are sorry we cannot be with you due to colds so we wish the ten Haaf family our deepest thoughts and prayers for a most wonderful family friend. Rest In Peace Greet. Love always Frank and Linda Kusters

Condolences from Parkwood. I enjoyed getting to know Margaret in my exercise class at Parkwood Hospital. Always full of spunk and willing to exercise to spite her limitations. She will be remembered fondly.

Margaret was a much loved neighbor of our family for many years. We have many wonderful memories of her and Albert, Harry and Rick living next door. She tried to teach me Dutch when I was little which I'm sure frustrated her but she just laughed. So sorry Rick and Harry for your loss but what wonderful memories you surely have of a life well lived♥️

~ Gina Jung (Cortese)
