“ONE IN A MILLION”

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of Christiaan Wydooghe, at the young age of 57. He is survived by his father, Noel; mother, Simone; sister, Catherine (Dustie); daughter, Olivia; and companion, Gillian. He died peacefully surrounded by his family and people who loved him. Christiaan died on Thanksgiving Day, which seems appropriate. Anyone who had the pleasure of knowing Christiaan is thankful for the unfailing kindness he brought to their lives, his generosity and his humanity. Christiaan found immense pleasure in mountain biking, working out at the gym, aviation, travel and his beloved cats. His favourite travel destination was Tahiti, where he took vacations for many years. He also loved Polynesian tattoo work, and over time, had many of his own beautiful tattoos which he displayed with pride. If you asked Christiaan what his idea of heaven would look like, he would have had said an overwater bungalow in Tahiti with a room full of kittens. So, when we remember Christiaan, let’s see him in the South Pacific with 50 kittens playing and jumping on him under the warm tropical sun. We will love and miss you forever, Christiaan. A Celebration of Life will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, on Sunday, October 22, 2023 from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m., with words of remembrance at 3:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to a local cat shelter.

My sincere condolences to Simone, Noel, Dustie, and Olivia. Chris was a very gentle man and loved travel, animals and kids. I feel blessed for the time I spent with him. To honour Chris, a donation has been made to the Etobicoke Humane Society (cat section). I am so very sorry to hear of this news. Words can not express my shock nor do justice for the family on this heartbreaking news. I am wishing the family peace during this difficult time. If the family would like to have photos of Chris, please feel free to reach me via facebook or text at 4168980700 Anita (nee Marchildon) Nickerson

The little kid next door , "Chrissie", as we knew him, still stands out in my mind more than fifty years later. I remember when he got his first music record, I believe. It was called "Playground in My Mind". "My name is Michael, I got a nickel ... shiny and new. Remember that one? "Chrissie" was just thrilled with it. I think he was about five years old. He was the ever present little guy next door to us in Courtland, and now it's amazing to see an image of him around fifty years later and what a handsome man he turned into. I regret that I never did get a chance to meet him after the Courtland days.

Our deepest condolences on the loss of Christiaan. Although I haven't seen him for many years, I will never forget Chris teaching me how to play soccer and Dustie, myself and Chris playing with dinky toys in the sandbox. Growing up, he was the little brother I wished I'd had. We have made a donation to our local SPCA for cats, in memorial to Chris, here in Prince Edward Island. God rest him in peace.

Chris was a gentle soul... He had an aura about him that made you feel calm, and was always truly present and reflective in conversation. Your star will shine bright in the sky and you will never be forgotten... our small group of cousins in Canada will miss you dearly.
