Etta Cheeseman

September 26, 2023

Peacefully at home with family by her side, on Tuesday, September 26, 2023, at the age of 91. Beloved wife of the late George Cheeseman. Treasured mother of Geoff (Donna), George (Marianne), Juliette, David (Cindy), Anne, Kathy (Ben), and the late Rosemary. Dear grandmother of Peggy, Geoffrey (Steffanie), Brian (Victoria), Nate and Natasha; great-grandmother of Maddyson, Olivia, Mason, Liam, Scarlett, Dylan, Damian and Noah; and great-great-grandmother of Roran. She leaves behind her sister Margaret. Predeceased by her brother Robert and great-grandson Dimitri. Etta was born and raised in Barbados. Her and her husband immigrated to Canada in 1968 with their six children to give them more opportunities in life. 17 years later, they returned to their beloved island, Barbados, when their children were established. Etta returned to Canada to be with her children in 2009 after the passing of George. It was a challenging time for her initially, but she enjoyed being with her family, especially during various holidays, birthdays, etc. Food was always a focal point for these occasions, with many dishes from Barbados. Mom loved cooking and always found great joy in sharing meals with others. She personified the movie ‘Driving Miss Daisy’, as she found joy in being chauffeured around to various markets and down country roads. A private visitation and funeral will be held, followed by a private burial at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Etta are asked to consider ReForest London.

May she R.I.P

Etta who was my dad’s cousin has always been such a ray of happiness and sunshine. We always enjoyed spending time with her, her zest for life and love for her family near and far, was a true testament to the wonderful person she was. A few years ago when Etta was still living in Barbados, she invited my wife and I along with my mother Auleen to a wonderful picnic at Miami Beach, all catered of course by her, and what a feast it was, it brought back such fond memories of the picnics we enjoyed, and visits to the beach house in Bathsheba where they stayed whenever Etta and her family would visit Barbados, where Etta was always the consummate hostess. Dearest Etta memories of you will last a lifetime, your time spent on earth will forever live in our hearts. In God’s care you rest above, in our hearts you rest with love, may you forever rest in peace. With love and fond memories, Roger and Judy King.
