Joyce Clarkson

Joyce Clarkson, 93, of Sarnia and most recently London, Ontario, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, August 22, 2023, a week after celebrating her birthday with family. She was born in Cheshire, England but immigrated to Canada on July 4, 1956 to be with her husband James (Jim) Dennis Clarkson, who had arrived a few months earlier to start their new lives in Canada. The Clarkson’s were married for 67 years until Jim passed away in 2018.

Joyce is survived by her four children Allan (Lila), Dianne (Dave), Lynne (Dave) and Mike (Kelly). She has 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.

Raised in Ellesmere, Port England, she worked primarily as a homemaker but also for the school board in Corunna, Ontario. Joyce had many talents – knitting, crocheting, sewing, crafts and was an exceptional artist. She was an avid golfer, dart player, always up for adventures and for years participated in musical theatre with the ladies of the British Overseas Club. She loved being part of short plays at Chartwell Royalcliffe in London with “Grandmas in Pyjamas” – a favourite performance for her family to enjoy for years! Mum, Grandma and Great-Grandma will be fondly remembered by those that knew her for her kindness, generosity and unwavering sense of humour. A Celebration of Life with a light luncheon served for family and friends will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, Byron-Springbank Branch 533, 1276 Commissioners Road West, London on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, please consider supporting one of Joyce’s favourite charities: The Salvation Army, the Canadian Red Cross or a local animal shelter.
