Leave a tribute for Marjory Dell Evans

Marj and I lived on the same floor in our building. I loved having her as a neighbour. She was always very soft-spoken and sweet. I especially appreciate the way she and others had my back during a very stressful time for me some years back. That's when I learned that yes, she's sweet, but not to mess with her... Through her I was able to meet Donna, Diane (whom I still can't tell apart), Tom, Jan and Theo, who looks like he could eat me, but is just a giant teddy bear! I will miss her very much, but I am so glad she went peacefully. I will miss seeing her family around as well. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and I love that you have always remembered my name! PS. I always got a kick out of the fact that her first name was Marj and her maiden name was Simpson :)
Marjory was my cousin. Our Fathers were brothers, born 20 year apart. Although her brothers, Bert and George visited our family home fairly regularly, the same could not be said about Marjory. So unfortunately, as a kid, I did not get to know her in the same way as I knew them. A weekend in Kingston many years ago, arranged by Marjory, changed all that, as it brought 5 Simpson cousins together, to honour our Grandmother. It was then I saw the fun side of her, that those who have left a tribute, alluded to. We had many laughs that weekend. It is a memory I will always cherish. After that, she and I corresponded quite regularly by email and I absolutely loved hearing from her. I was in awe of her beautifully written emails with neither a spelling nor grammatical error in any of them. When I complimented her about that, she said she had worked as a secretary and her job was to make sure correspondence did not leave the office with any mistakes. She was an inspiration to me. I loved how she kept up with new technology. I loved how she did not let things get her down. I loved her fighting spirit. I loved how much she loved her family and how she spoke of them with such pride and affection. Marjory, I was proud to have you as a cousin and I will miss hearing from you. I pray you and Ralph are practising those dancing skills that someone mentioned in a tribute, once again. To Tom, Donna and Dianne, find comfort knowing you brought your Mother such joy. I know you will miss her, but she will stay alive in those wonderful memories you have of her. Love and hugs to all.
My first memory of Aunt Marj was of helping her to build a huge house from playing cards on her coffee table on Oakland Ave. I thought she was magic! And she always was. Many years later, we had a wonderful, fun week in Mexico with Aunt Marj, Uncle Ralph, Uncle Roger, Donna and Gary, and Kathy. One evening we attended the entertainment and when the young, male singer invited guests to dance on stage, Marj and Donna of course jumped up. The entertainer was so taken with Marj that he singled her out for conversation and much audience appreciation and she won the dance contest! Just more magic. Uncle Ralph boasted “it’s been a hell of a ride with her”. The next morning, other guests stopped her to say how much they had loved her dancing! One young boy commented “you were really giving ‘er. We all love you and miss you, but know that you and Uncle Ralph are riding off into the sunset together. Love, Judy and Hugh
A lovely photo.
Our deepest sympathies to all the family. May all your cherished memories bring you some comfort during this very difficult time. Thoughts and prayers for everyone.
Time is so precious and speeds by. Marjory had almost a century of it and still it seems too little. What a blessing she has been to so many of us. Everyone who knew her has a story of appreciation to tell. I met her first when I was an overweight preteen who just stood in awe of her glamour. She was blonde, dashing and every so stylish. My brother was a bit of a dish as well. At every age she remained so beautiful with an ease and grace most mortals can only admire. She was the quintessential daughter-in-law and her care for my father and mother was just plain exceptional. I spent some very tender moments with my sister near her death and she often spoke of her deep love for her pal Marjory. They were buddies in the tough years of WWII. For myself, I still hope I have a little of her style. I have so many memories of support in tough times and she was just always there with kind words and deep insights. She loved my children David and Mary and they will treasure their memories of her always. Who knows what heaven is but for sure it has to be a time when two such loving souls as Ralph and Marjory are reunited in peace. May their love be always an inspiration for all our family.
Aunt Marj was there for me during the hard times and she also helped me to find the good times once again. She sure could have fun. Donna and Diane call it shenanigans and most of us have had those with her. My photos are from a day full of fun that started with trying to get the red chairs out of the shed on Garner Crescent which meant we needed a key which was inside the house. She had the key to the house and as soon as we opened the door Jack flew out. Well she chased that dog around the front yard and then around the back yard and finally in the back door, which I was holding open. Then she chased him around the house. I'm not sure why she did that but Jack lived for that kind of thing. So we got the chairs and we went to the Pinery and parked. We had to carry the chairs down an incline to the beach where we went swimming and lay in the sun for the afternoon. The trip up the hill wasn't so much fun and she decided to rest for a bit, as you can see. Then came the really fun part when we decided to change out of our swimsuits by the car - or should I say, outside the car. I think we had them completely off (sorry no photos that we know of) when a guy in a mustang convertible drove through the parking lot. We quickly grabbed our clothes but then stopped when he circled round for a second look. "Why not?" she said, "a couple of old babes, what's he doing looking at us?" Well we laughed all the way home. We laughed so hard we could hardly eat our ice cream. I love you Auntie Marj. There's no one like you in the whole world. Thanks for being you.
