Otto Max Nitschke

July 14, 2023

Max was born June 22, 1931, in Mauche, Poland, but lived in Berlin, Germany until moving to Canada in 1954. He is predeceased by his parents Max Erich and Maria Nitschke. Married to Helen for 66 years, Max leaves behind his beloved Helen, children Sheila and David and his grandchildren, Maia and Isaac.

When first coming to Canada, Max worked in Hamilton and London, transferring to Regina where he met Helen in 1956; returning to Ontario in 1963. Upon retiring in 1999 from Onyx Corp as VP of Finances, Max spent countless hours reading, writing his memoirs and exploring self-taught creative endeavours, including carving, carpentry, painting, and his favourite, printmaking. Max fueled and enjoyed his retirement with plenty of black coffee and Helen’s home baking. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be conducted at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Monday, July 24, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. A livestream of the service is available for those unable to attend in person.

I had the privilege to meet your father and be given some wonderful artwork which I treasure! Thank you Sheila and David for your impact on our lives. Take care of each other and of course your mom, this is not an easy time for any of you! With deepest and sympathy on the loss of one of your tribe! Marnie

I rarely had the opportunity to visit Uncle Max but every minute of every visit was treasured. He was such a kind and gentle soul, and I will miss him very much. I had plans to visit a few years ago but covid had other plans. Unfortunately, I ran out of time. I send my deepest love and condolences to my sweet Aunt Helen, and my cousins Sheila and David. I love you all.
