Tony Filippo Spina

May 2, 2023

It is with broken hearts that we announce the passing of Tony Spina of London, Ontario (formerly of Point Edward, Ontario) on Tuesday, May 2, 2023. Beloved husband of Catherine. Devoted father to Philip and Miriam. Only son of Italia Spina and the late Vittorio Spina. Brother to Connie Vidotto (Sergio) of Port Elgin. Brother-in-law to Jane Copeland (Greg) of Orillia. Dear uncle to Christine Vidotto, Robert Vidotto, Carla Campbell (John), Julia Vidotto, Jamie Copeland, Catie Copeland. Great-uncle to Anna Campbell, Alice Campbell.

Tony was a highly respected High Voltage Underground Cable Splicer and member of the IBEW. He worked internationally, sometimes for months at a time, but was always whole-heartedly dedicated to his family. He spent most of his early years travelling and performing in bands. Playing his 1961 Fender Jazz bass and blowing his blues harp (harmonica) always came from his soul. He was honoured to have played with many talented musician friends. Tony had a passion for making wine and champagne, carefully selecting grape varieties, and only using the authentic, traditional methods to create each bottle. He loved fishing (especially with his son), perfecting his guitar repairing skills with great pride, and always enjoyed an excellent Cuban cigar.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, May 9, 2023 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a celebration of life will be conducted on Wednesday, May 10, 2023 at 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Ocular Oncology Department at Princess Margaret Hospital, or to a charity of your choice.

My deepest condolences to Tony's family. He was the very first person I worked with when I started my electrical apprenticeship in 1982. He would actually give me a ride everyday to work. He was a great mentor and I learned so much from him. Rest in eternal peace Tony.

I had the privilege of knowing Tony for many years both as a fellow worker and as a friend, I can say from my heart that I have never known anyone quite like him. His work ethic was second to none along with his professionalism, you could not wish to meet a nicer person and it was an honour to have called him my friend. I am very lucky to have many memories of the times we shared together. My deepest sympathy is with his family and I send them my condolences. Tony, rest in peace.

Many years have passed since we knew you as the kindest, most caring of neighbours for Gary’s elderly parents on Bloomfield Dr. Tony, we remember a visit where you made us the most fabulous espresso in your kitchen long, long before there were fancy coffee shops!! Miriam and Philip (about 3 & 5) - you introduced us to your amazing little guinea pig, tours of your toys and games. And hardworking, ever-smiling Cathy 🥰always vigorously championing kids education and the well-being of healthcare workers. Tony, we knew of your love for music, how you had to spend weeks and months away from home with your work, and how much your family meant to you❤️ So happy to see some of your recent family times together. Cathy, Miriam and Philip, in this time of sadness, we hope it is also a time of letting the good memories wrap around you like a warm comforter. We are there in thought and spirit. And we send our love.

Tony was a very dear friend of mine. It all started as a work relationship but we quickly figured out that we both love fishing. Which lead to bbq’s and much more. RIP buddy and condolences to the Spina family
