Jeannette Giroloma Corcoran
April 22, 2023
Jeannette Giroloma Corcoran, a caring wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt and friend, passed peacefully at the age of 93, surrounded by family on Saturday, April 22, 2023 at Parkwood Institute, London. She was born in Barrie to Antonio (Tony) Caruso and Girolama (Mamie) Scardino, on March 6, 1930. The family lived in North Bay during her childhood years, and then returned to Barrie, where Jeannette met and married her loving husband, Edward (Ted) Corcoran, in 1952. In 1967, Jeannette and Ted moved with their family of five children to the active Oakridge neighborhood of London, Ontario, purposely selecting a home close to the school which proved to be a good choice for making new and lasting friendships. Jeannette accomplished many things in her life, including studying and teaching ballet, raising five children, and lending her excellent voice to church choirs. She worked tirelessly to support and unite her family, extended family and friends with loving care, friendliness and authentic Sicilian hospitality. Jeannette together with Ted, was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Barrie and Holy Family Parish in London, where she loved singing with the choir and assisting with charitable works. Through participation in their faith, Jeannette and Ted acquired many good friends who enriched their lives, and the lives of our entire family, with generosity, kindness and joy.
Left to carry on Jeannette’s legacy are children Donna (late Michael Oliver), James, Patrick (Anita) and Daniel (Susan); grandchildren: Sean (Heather), Michael (Sasha), Sarah (Derek), Adam (Alisa), Stephanie (Dylan), David (Alicia) and Aidan, five great-grandchildren and many most dear nieces and nephews. Jeannette was preceded in death by her parents, her child Shawn, her beloved son Stephen (Lucy), her husband Ted, her sisters Grace and Joanna, and her brother Joseph.
The family wishes to thank University Hospital and St. Joseph’s Healthcare – Parkwood Institute for the care and compassion provided to our mother during her final days. Our family will be forever grateful to our sister Donna, who provided the most loving care to both our parents, enabling them to enjoy the highest quality of health and happiness throughout their latter years.
Visitation will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Thursday, April 27, 2023 from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. The Funeral Mass of Jeannette Corcoran will be celebrated at Holy Family Parish, 777 Valetta Street, London, on Friday, April 28, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. Livestream of the Funeral Mass is available for those unable to attend in person. We are so sorry for your loss! Your mom was a special lady and we adored living next to both Ted and Jeanette for 20 years! We enjoyed our visits. Sharing each others news, learning about your family of which she was so proud! Sharing a coffee/tea or occasional beer with Ted. Aways a fun story to hear and pearls of wisdom to learn. Jeanette was kind, thoughtful and we lucked out on a couple of spaghetti sauce gifts. We would drop off baking and Jeanette would say “I shouldn’t, but thank you’ We take comfort knowing your parents are together now and hope your memories comfort you over these difficult days . We have been so blessed to have known Aunt Jeanette. Her laughter, stories and overall outlook on life created the memories we still have and cherish. Rest in peace Auntie.
We have treasured memories of Aunt Jeannette’s generosity and kindness. Uncle Ted and Aunt Jeannette’s love and support for each other and their family was the foundation of their long and happy life they shared with each other and everyone they met. Rest in peace Aunt Jeannette.
To the Corcoran family, We were privileged to call Jeannette and Ted 'friends' within a few years of moving to London from Montreal.. through Choir days at Holy Family Parish, and a short while later, as part of a fun bowling group. We remember well her famous spaghetti and meatballs! Such a caring and joy-filled lady. Her love of family was always evident, and when you were with her, you were always made to feel special. Rest in peace, lovely lady.

My condolences to all of Jeanette's Children and their families. Being a neighbour with Jeanette and Ted, Jamie, Pat, Late Stephen, Donna and Danny was always a joy and filled with great memories. Jeanette filled their home with much love and kindness and resiliency. Even having a car come into their living room in the middle of the night was only a temporary setback to become the source of a super story. A life well lived Jeanette. Rest in peace. Walt Chmiel
