Norene “Rene” Volkmann
April 3, 2023
Peacefully, at home with her sons by her bedside, Rene passed away on Monday, April 3, 2023 in her 81st year. After a six-year battle with ovarian cancer, she is reunited with her husband Bob, who passed away in 2011. She is sadly missed by her sons Nathan (Natalie) of St. Thomas and Aaron of London. Cherished Nana to Ben and Leah. Rene is survived by her siblings Richard and Judy of Calgary, Alberta and Toni of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. Predeceased by her parents Mike and Tillie Weinberger of Fox Valley, Saskatchewan; and her sister Carol of Maple Creek, Saskatchewan.
Born in Saskatchewan, Rene trained as a nurse and extensively traveled in Europe before being introduced to Bob Volkmann in 1970. Together they relocated to London, Ontario so Bob could begin his career at 3M Canada, and Rene worked as an emergency room nurse and later a medical receptionist while raising a family. Her interests included travel, gardening, a game of euchre, and a glass of white wine. Her most favourite of all roles was that of Nana to Ben and Leah, who she loved with all her heart. Rene treasured her friendships as without them, the days since Bob’s passing and her cancer diagnosis would have been impossible.
A very special thank-you to nurse Natalie from St. Elizabeth’s Health Care who made all the difference in Rene’s last days. Cremation has taken place, and a Celebration of Life will be held at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Saturday, April 15, 2023 at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Rene’s memory to the Canadian Cancer Society.

Nathan and Aaron so sorry to hear about the loss of your mom. She was a lovely human with a huge heart and a smile that brightened the room. Her memory will live on in you both and her grandchildren 💕 Sending you all love and hugs from the Patels
The light of her presence, the warmth of her smile, the zeal that came with her physical endeavors and her genuine caring and concern will always be with us. Your Mother is a loss to many. My sincere wishes.
How grateful I am to have been such a close friend of Rene’s. She was always positive, keeping her sense of humour and smiling all the while. I will miss her beyond belief. My sincere sympathy to her loving family. Tammy Butler
My bestie. What a wonderful woman she was and I am so honoured to have been her friend for these many years. She was funny, intelligent, compassionate, a joy to be around. She met her disease with grace and determination always dressed and makeup done and with a smile on her face, making the nurses in the chemo unit laugh. Smiling and laughing. That is what we did, every day. She was a constant in my life and I adore her. I will never forget the time we spent together, solving the problems of the world! To her sons and grandchildren: she was so immensely proud of all of you. Your names were always on her lips. She felt blessed.
