Juliette R. Hope Golbahar Poirier-Mozun

December 24, 2022

In the darkness and whirling cold of the snow storm of December 24th, 2022, Golbahar’s soul winged its way into the world of Light and Mysteries. A good samaritan came across her at the first morning light in the park adjacent her home, near a path where she habitually walked. The Poirier, Wolf and Mozun families wish to thank University Hospital Emergency Room and Cardiac Ward for exerting every means to save her.

We, her family, are grief stricken that she didn’t make it home that night from her short winter walk. She will be dearly missed by her mother Celine Poirier-Wolf, her father Samandar Mozun, her step-father Daniel Wolf, her sister, Rosie Poirier-Mozun, her grandparents Terry and Jules Poirier, her aunt and uncle, Nazanin and André Poirier, and her cousins, Mehdi and Vafa Poirier. She leaves in her wake her dearly loved Mozun aunts and uncles: Soheil, Soroush, Boshra and Mojdeh. She is also grieved by numerous cousins from the Poirier, Mozun and Wolf families, and scores of friends whose lives and hearts she has touched.

Golbahar was a diligent student of computer programming. She was looking forward to her co-op placement in her final term at Fanshawe College. Her artistic talents included singing, trombone playing, painting, pottery, carpentry, and of course, finding errors in code. For many years, Golbahar sang with Amabile Choirs of London. In high school she performed in band and in the choir.

She was a dedicated volunteer who served in numerous capacities including the Community tax clinic, Fanshawe College peer support, Junior Youth Program, Epelle-Moi Canada, ReForest London, SARI, children’s classes, and so many more. She was also a Personal Support Worker to a young woman whose father depended on her for relief care. She recently completed two co-op placements with Info-Tech in London, Ontario.

Golbahar was deeply devoted to her faith. She frequently called upon the power of prayer. In the summer of 2014 she embarked on a year of service to the Baha’i Cause and was dispatched to several areas in the province of Quebec where her activities were lovingly overseen by the Regional Council of Quebec. She is also remembered for her service as a counselor at Rainbow Baha’i School in Northern Ontario, and for her frequent participation at Shining Lamp Baha’i school. Her singing voice often graced the assemblages, particularly in her home community of London, Ontario.

Golbahar was vigorous and athletic. She learned to swim from a young age. She enjoyed canoeing and cycling, and as a child she was a natural gymnast. It was her custom to take long walks outdoors. Although she had acquired her driver’s licence in recent years, she relied on buses to get around in any kind of weather. She had excellent navigation skills and impeccable timing for buses.

Golbahar had a family in the PEPP program at LHSC where she regularly participated in recreational activities. She was a luminous support to her peers in the program. She also developed many deep ties with friends and staff at CMHA housing in London. Golbahar overcame her challenges in recent years with perspicacity and determination. She drew strength from the friendships she built, and offered precious support in turn.

Golbahar’s deep compassion is evidenced in the numerous reminiscences of friends far and wide which have been pouring in. We are bolstered in our grief in the recounting of her consoling and encouraging the discouraged and the outcast. She was also a lover of the environment. She enjoyed planting trees, and frequently collected and sorted trash. Her presence was often a source of comfort, or of goofy laughter. She will be remembered also for her unique sense of style, her colourful and flowing garments.

We call upon you Golbahar, and count on your support and levity. We sing your praises, and perform acts of service in your name. In our grief you have drawn us together with a powerful love that is everlasting. We are united in our yearning for your sweet voice, your cheerful smile, and your able assistance. May you fly eternally, our dear sweet angel, in the meads on high. We pray your soul be free of trespasses so that it may be released to explore the heights of Heavenly Grace. Yá Bahá’u’l-Abhá!

Dearest of all my friends, you'll always be young and beautiful to me. I'll miss your beautiful smile and your fantastic laugh. I remember one time we went for a walk near a park and I was pushing her on the swing and she purposely fell off knowing she'd make me laugh, so she could hear mine and I could hear her wonderful laugh.

~ Quinten Roy

Coding with you and being able to meet you was an honour and a privilege. There would be days, where we all worked together to figure out a solution to a problem in the kings mill building. Golbahar could always make a group laugh. She was bubbly, kind, sweet, and super generous(always sharing snacks). Ngl I’m gonna miss her laugh.

This is a huge loss for the world hands down. I only knew Golbahar a short while but she brightened every moment. We shared countless games and talks and her laugh was infectious. I can't believe your soul has moved on. I pray we can meet again one day.

~ Adam Rowe

Once again, our family's and prayers are very much with all of Golbahar's dear family as you process this terrible loss, and with Golbahar as her soul soars in all the worlds of God. My first glimpse of Golbahar's deep spirituality and pure heart was at a multi-faith gathering in Chelsea, QC, during a sharing circle at which those in the circle were invited to share their understanding of God. Golbahar had arrived to serve in Quebec just a short time before this. About halfway around that circle, it was Golbahar's turn, and I do not recall exactly what she said, but I do recall the spirit in which she said it and the utter quiet in the room for some time afterwards. As she spoke about God, she was enveloped in such a radiance that I yearned to understand God the way she did. I think everyone in the room was deeply moved. We all wanted to drink in that expression for some time afterwards, before the next person spoke. This is just one precious memory I have that I will never forget and will hold dear in my heart, with profound appreciation to this precious soul, Golbahar. Our family--Heather, Kira, Brian and I--have made donations to both the CMHA and LHSF--in memory of Juliette R. Hope Golbahar Poirier-Mozun.

Goli has a special place in my heart with many happy memories from when I lived in London. On Friday, Dec 23, she reached out to me on Facebook asking if she could share many dreams with me, looking for some interpretations. I was happy to connect to a long-time Baha’i friend. It was all the more devastating to hear of this tragedy on Saturday morning. My thoughts and prayers are with her in the next world and I send loving condolences to all of her cherished family. You are in my prayers and my heart.
