Nicolle ‘Nikki’ Sarah Nesbitt

July 28, 2022

“Heaven has gained an angel with the most radiant smile, infectious laugh, and spirit of endless joy.”

With profound sadness, the family of Nicolle Sarah Nesbitt announces that our beautiful Nikki gained her Heavenly Angel wings on Thursday, July 28, 2022 at the age of 29.  She died peacefully in the arms of her mother.

Even though she couldn’t walk or talk, her connection with others was simply undeniable! Everyone Nikki touched was captured completely by her effervescent sparkle, her infectious smile, joyful spirit and energy. “Sunshine radiated through her each and every day”. She “taught others the definition of a contagious belly laugh, the true meaning of bravery, fight, and courage.” “Those who were lucky enough to have Nikki in their lives will feel the lasting impact she leaves on each and every one of us.” She was 1 in a million.

She will forever be remembered for her love of Shania Twain, the O Canada National Anthem, the Big Bang Theory, attending concerts, her beautiful friendships, her gleeful reaction to a good joke, winning at board games, her penchant for shopping, her delight in baking and crafts with those she loved, and her enchantment with new adventures in the community.

Despite any physical limitations that Nikki experienced, she always demonstrated incredible courage, an unbridled zest for life, and inspired hope in so many others during her amazing life journey. She truly was a ray of sunshine in the lives of so many people.

Nikki is survived by her devoted mother, Brenda Blais Nesbitt (D’Arcy), her father, Fredrick Nesbitt (Tara), her grandmother, Karen Nesbitt, and lovingly remembered by countless aunts, uncles, and cousins. She was adored by her Godmother Brenda Harrington, her own team of care staff, lovingly referred to as “Nikki’s Angels”, her fur-sister Molly, and her special friend Britt Hodkinson. Nikki was predeceased by her grandparents, Joseph and Evelyn Blais and Frederick J. Nesbitt. We take comfort in knowing she is welcomed into Heaven with open arms and so much love by her grandparents.

A very special thank you to Nikki’s Angels; all of the amazing people who cared for her, celebrated her, and helped make her life so rich and bursting with fun and happiness over the years. They were more than a care team; they were family, her “sisters”, and they all had a special place in Nikki’s heart and soul.

Thank you to all the doctors, nurses, and allied health professionals who cared for Nikki in hospital and community for so many years since her birth. A special thank you to Dr. Wiebe, Dr. Cassidy, Dr. Chande, Dr. Leasa, and Dr. Khan for so many years of support.

“Nikki, it’s your time now to be free of all that held you back. Sing Shania as loud as you can, dance on the Heavenly clouds as much as your heart desires, and savour the warm hugs with family who have been patiently waiting for your arrival in Heaven. “Love You More.”

Brenda would like to extend her heartfelt appreciation to all those who provided an immeasurable amount of support to both her and Nikki through the years and particularly at the end of Nikki’s life: All of Nikki’s care staff for loving Nikki unconditionally and always being there to help care for her at home and in hospital. To Brenda’s sister Wilma Crough and her family; we will forever hold very close to our hearts, Nikki’s very special goodbye with them during a brief moment of alertness prior to her passing. To D’Arcy for accepting and embracing all Nikki was and for being a huge support to both Brenda and Nikki during this incredibly difficult transition. To Colleen Breen who was always there for friendship, support, guidance, and helping to create very special memories at the end of Nikki’s life.

Brenda, I am at a loss for words to learn that Nikki is now singing and dancing in heaven. I remember her infectious laugh when you told her a joke and how happy she was to get her hair done and always looks so pretty. She was so positive and your love for her was reflected in her never ending joy. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Nikki. Heather

The gift of a child shall bring blessings and memories upon those whom they touch and love. Here is a children's song from our church that brings true meaning to one’s heart: I Am a Child of God 1. I am a child of God, And he has sent me here, Has given me an earthly home With parents kind and dear. [Chorus] Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday. 2. I am a child of God, And so my needs are great; Help me to understand his words Before it grows too late. [Chorus] Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday. 3. I am a child of God. Rich blessings are in store; If I but learn to do his will, I’ll live with him once more. [Chorus] Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday. 4. I am a child of God. His promises are sure; Celestial glory shall be mine If I can but endure. [Chorus] Lead me, guide me, walk beside me, Help me find the way. Teach me all that I must do To live with him someday. You have taught her and loved her. She is in His hands now and you will receive the same when you return to meet her and Him, one Day.

Brenda, What a special gift Nikki was to this world. You guys gave each other a beautiful life and the love and joy you shared was evident to all. My favourite Nikki memory was how she would mischievously giggle when you said one particular word to her. Comforting words are hard to find as we know how broken your heart will be. May the God of all comfort be ever so close to you Brenda.
