Elizabeth ‘Beth’ Kathleen Mencel (née Rail)
November 17, 2021
Of London, passed away peacefully at Parkwood Institute, on Wednesday, November 17, 2021, in her 67th year. Beloved mother of Rob (Megan) and James. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren, John and Elizabeth; and by her cat, Bandit. She will be lovingly remembered by her brother, Robert Rail (Janice Butler), as well as her many friends.
Born in Windsor, Ontario, to F. Donald and Shirley Rail, Beth grew up in Canada, South Africa, Brazil, and Australia. In 1971, she became the first female to attend the Geelong Grammar School near Melbourne, Australia, when it became coeducational. Beth graduated from the University of Western Ontario with both a Bachelor’s and Master’s degree and had a career as a Speech-Language Pathologist in both London and Brantford.
Beth was resilient in life and had a strong sense of self. She loved spending time at family cottages, first, on Lake St. Clair and then, on Lake Huron. A lifelong athlete, she was an avid golfer, scoring a hole-in-one on her 48th birthday! She was also a talented nature photographer and animal lover and will be missed by the neighbourhood birds, who she always kept well fed.

My deepest sympathies for the loss of your dear mother and grandmother. I remember how much she loved you boys, Robert and Jamie. May your many memories of her bring you comfort and peace.
Rob, James, and John, I am so sorry to hear of Beth’s passing. Beth and I were classmates in the Program of Communication Disorders at UWO. Beth was a star in our class and we all came to her for help. I didn’t see her after graduation for about 25 years and then we reconnected. We visited off and on for a few years. We attended some self-empowerment workshops. Beth was a seeker. She was always on a quest to know herself better and to be available to her friends and family. I feel blessed to have had the chance to get to know her. She had a beautiful soul.
So sorry for the loss of your mother and grandmother. I feel fortunate that I was able to reconnect with Beth earlier this year at the 40th Zoom reunion of our Communicative Disorders class. I know she will be sorely missed by all.
I have many fond memories playing golf with Beth especially in our F.U. Group. Hugs Jane
My sympathy to your family. I had the privilege of working with Beth at TVDSB . Many memories come to mind of how dedicated she was to helping children.
Heartfelt condolences to all the family. May your memories sustain you.
Our heartfelt condolences to all the family. Fortunate to have good memories of working with Beth at TVDSB and reconnecting in retirement playing golf. Her kind heart, humility and quiet strength will be remembered.
Beth was, and continues to be such an inspiration. Her courage, strength, positivity, sense of calm and humility were always apparent, personally and professionally. . I am so grateful for her friendship of 43 years and will miss her terribly. So many memories. ❤️?❤️
My heartfelt condolences to all the family. I was blessed to know Beth as a teenager in Brazil. We reconnected many years later through Facebook to discover we both had an affinity for wildlife photography and birds. Beth was sweet and kind who will be missed by many.
Sincere condolences to the family.
I was very fortunate to meet Beth at Sunningdale and played with her many times. She was an excellent golfer, a kind and caring friend, a devoted Mom/Grandma and a nature lover. One cannot think of Beth without acknowledging the struggles she faced so bravely and positively. She will be missed, but always remembered. My sincere condolences to her family.
I have such good memories from working with Beth. She was so knowledgeable and applied it in a kind supportive manner. She often proudly spoke of Rob and James. My sincere condolences to the family.
Sincere condolences to the family.
So very sorry for your loss.
