The final chapter of our parents’ love story has drawn to an end. Our beautiful mom, Joanne, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 1, 2021. She knew that her loving husband, the late Albert ‘Jake’ (2013) would be there waiting with Freckles and her furry friend, Muffy. Mom was surrounded by her loving family during the last few days of her life. She is survived by her son, Blair (Lynda), daughter, Wendy (Matt); grandchildren, Derek (Dulce), Christopher (Meagan), Jennifer (Scott), Alanna (Kevin); and precious great-grandchildren, Alexis, Addison, Alexia, Jacob, James, and Benjamin. Also missed by Allan Lamb (Marlayne) and Allan Meabry, who were like sons to Joanne; she loved them dearly.
The family would like to thank Dr. Elia for being such an amazing physician over the years, especially recently. Also, thank you, to the late Dr. Bhamjee and family, for all the care they gave our whole family for many years. Thank you, to our mom’s three lifelong friends: June, Dixie, and Helen, who recently got together. To Edna, Myron, Hilda, Connie, Paul, Melanie, and Teri, thank you for being there for our mom’s final days. To her 555 friends, her Saturday night gang, thank you for the memories.
Joanne was a huge Blue Jays fan. She also really wanted to be here October 8th for her London Knights and Dale Hunter; she wished them a great season. There will be a private family service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Joanne are asked to consider the Humane Society London & Middlesex or a charity of your choice.

Joanne was the first person to befriend us when we moved to 555. She was warm, and welcoming, and she made it clear that she would soon find "something" for us to participate in. And did she! Parties, Halloween, soup lunches, picnics, bingo... she was the steady hand behind just about everything fun. Never was there a more fierce friend or a more staunch ally. To say we'll miss her is a vast understatement.
Joanne Smalley, Joanne "was 555" Berkshire in London. She lived there for more than twenty five years and during all of those time Joanne was the centre for all of the many activities and celebrations. Over the years as I tried to be of help with my camera we took hundreds if pictures of those occasions and in her last months she made up a 555 special photo album which she gave to me and which is available to those interested. My sincerest sympathies to the Smalley family. I am so saddened to hear about the loss of your beloved Mother and Grandmother. I remember Joanne welcoming me when I first moved into 555. I always enjoyed chatting with her when ever we bumped into each other. She was a truly beautiful person. I will miss her.
So sorry for your loss. Joanne was such a good friend to my parents John and Jean. My parents loved the Saturday night events and really tried hard not to miss them. I was welcomed in every time I went to see my parents. She helped me so much at the end of my parents life, I really can't say enough how much her kind soul helped. Joanne had such a powerful way in the world. A beautiful soul who will be very much missed.
Our most sincere condolences to Blaire, Wendy, and all the Smalley family. I worked with Joanne's husband Al at GMAC in the seventies, where Al was such a caring teacher and mentor to me and many others. When my wife Claire and I returned from BC in 2013, I was visiting with my deceased father at Woodland when by happenstance, I met Derek (who's warm, kindly demeanor reminded me of his grandfather) and where I was also timing-fortunate to share a long and heartfelt hug with Joanne. Both their lives were a treasure-shared love story..!! And to know that their love story will continue on via their fine family, is a truly fitting and well-deserved blessing.
My sincere condolences to the Smalley family. I worked with Al at GMAC, and met Mrs. Smalley on a couple of occasions . Al was a real gentleman and a great mentor. Mrs. Smalley I remember always friendly and welcoming. I am now retired and have great memories of both Mr. and Mrs. Smalley. So sorry for your loss.
My parents Harry and Louise Moonen lived at 555 for about 10 years. Joanne and Al welcomed my mom and dad in to the 555 family with open arms. Joanne was my mom's angel here on earth after she broke her hip. She would come up each morning and help her get ready for the day. Our family could not have cared for mom without her help. My mom was also the soup lady and Joanne asked my mom to make all of her delicious soups. Joanne's energy was unrivalled. When I read the other comments that people have made it seems she was an angel to many people. I will miss her sweet smile and kind nature. To Blair, Lynda, Wendy and Matt, we have lost an elegant lovely lady who will be missed every day. But, I for one have lots of wonderful memories. My deepest sympathy to the entire Smalley family.
My sincere condolences... I was fortunate to have known Joanne for many years and she was such a kind, caring, loving woman. My thoughts and deepest prayers are with the family through this difficult time. So sorry for your loss.

I knew Joanne many years ago while/when she worked at Dr H Chamber's office! I also worked with Wendy over the years on 4NW at St Joseph's!! Lots of memories related to both venues and I am truly saddened by hearing of Joannes passing!! May your memories remain of good times with Joanne!
