Leonard Norman Pickering

February 14, 2021

Passed away peacefully, with his wife and equally favorite daughters by his side, on February 14, 2021.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 54 years, Judith (nee Frith); children: Tom (Ann), Dawn (Sam) and Victoria (Billy); grandchildren: Daniel, Matthew, Chelsea, Maudrey, and Megan; sisters Grace Denomme and Rena Treumner; daughter-in-law Cathy, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and relatives.

Leonard was many things to many people. He was a husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and brother-in-law. But more than that he was a port in any storm, the voice of reason, a kick in the pants, unconditional love, and even our own personal toolman. Leonard lived simply, taking joy in his family and personal accomplishments. He was happiest at home or at the “trailer” surrounded by friends and family.

In a management position for many years at Multi Fittings, Leonard earned the reputation of being hardworking, and tough but fair. This was also his management style in life. Every member of the family still cringes at the thought of being the recipient of “the look”, but also smiles remembering how big a softie he was when he thought no one was looking. Leonard touched many lives with his gentle presence.

Based on his own wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no funeral or other ceremony, in his own words “don’t make a fuss”. Those who wish to honour his memory are asked to consider a donation to the St. Joseph’s Hospice, where Leonard spent his final days being cared for by angels. Angels who guided us with their wisdom and knowledge, allowing us to be the best advocates for our Dad on this journey; or to a charity of their choice.

I was very sorry to read of Leonard's passing. I met Len over 50 years (55?) ago when he was representing a plastic parts manufacturer (on Wellington Road, I think) and I was in the purchasing department at Kelvinator on Dundas St. London. My hometown is Parkhill and somehow or other we made the connection of being from the same general area - actually I think I asked Len about his name because I knew of other Pickering family members from north of Parkhill. I remember Len as being serious, yet very easy to talk and do business with. My sincere condolences to all the family.

Judith, Dawn, Victoria and Tom: Lydia and I were saddened to learn of Leonard's passing tonight February 22nd in a link to the obituary from the Church Office at Dundas Centre. We have known the family from the time we met in 1996 when I came to the Church as Minister. Since then there have been many occasions when I performed both weddings and funerals for the Frith and Pickering Families. The obituary described him well and we will remember his easy smile and willingness to talk about just about anything whenever we met. Holding the family in our prayer for 'the peace that passes all understanding,' Rev Keith and Lydia
