Peacefully at Country Terrace, on Sunday, June 14, 2020, Gail Elgie of London in her 84th year. Gail was born in Guelph (May 24, 1937).  Beloved wife of James Barrie Elgie. Lovingly remembered by son David and daughter-in-law Shonna; and proud grandmother of Connor. Survived by her brothers Robert (Marion) Norris of Fergus and Stan (Mary) Norris of Conestogo.  Also survived by sister-in-law Betty Brett (Philip) of Orangeville.  Predeceased by her parents Harold and Gladys (nee Armstrong) Norris and by her sister Olive Armstrong of Guelph.  Gail was a devoted teacher and taught at schools in Toronto, Grand Valley, Orangeville and London.  When she retired she taught English as a Second Language to new immigrants to Canada at Oakridge Presbyterian Church. The family would like to acknowledge and thank the staff and Dr. Whynot at Country Terrace for the exceptional care and comfort they gave Gail while she was a resident in their care.  A private funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, with interment to follow at Mount Pleasant Cemetery.  If desired, donations to the Terry Fox Foundation would be appreciated.

Barry, Charles and I had no idea that your wife was the Gail Elgie whom I had known for so many years when we used to meet with you and the Grands at Little Beaver on so many Friday nights for supper. We knew your wife was sick and you used to visit her often, but who she was I just didn't know. I knew Gail through the Board of Education where I was the School Library Consultant for Elementary and Secondary Schools . We visited on regular occasions especially at Aberdeen. When we retired (?) we met for lunch and reminisced often about the old days. I had no idea that she had been ill because, as always, our ways slowly parted and I just didn't know. Gail was a great gal and a wonderful librarian. The little ones loved her. We send our regrets to you and hope that before too long we shall meet again when Little Beaver opens. Life is so strange. Without Bob and Georgeanne we would never have known of our connection. We are thinking of you with sincere sympathy at this time. Barbara and Charles Graham

Barrie, David and family my condolences on Gail's recent passing. In Gail, I had the privilege to observe and learn from one of the best teacher librarians. Gail had a very special way of introducing a book to a reluctant reader such that their comfort level and want for more was Ignited. She truly cared about the total child.
