I worked at the optometrist office on Dundas Street for several years and was fortunate enough to spend some time with both Jim and John. Jim was certainly one of the kindest gentlemen I have ever known and I have many a fond memory of those times. He dearly loved his family, Maryanne and his boys, Brad and Brian. You all were never far from his mind and he spoke of you quite often. He was so proud of Brad and Brian over the years. My heartfelt sincere condolences to you all.
Thinking of you all at this difficult time. Jim was a wonderful person and will always be remembered fondly
Our genuine condolences to all of Jim's family. We were Jim's clients since about 1970 when he had his downtown office right through until he retired from Byron. Both of us were always impressed with his attentive service and his happy disposition. The world needs more people like him. Sorry for your loss.
Maryanne, Brian, Brad and family - We are so saddened at the news of Jim's passing and so sorry we can't be there with you to celebrate the life of such a special person. Mr. Hughes was one of the kindest people you could hope to know and someone we were proud to call family. We will miss his kind eyes and ever-present smile. Thinking of you all and sending you our deepest sympathies, Mary Jane, Paul, Bridgette and Kate.
My condolences to Maryanne, Brian and Bradley. I am so glad I got to speak with Jim at the Hughes reunion. My thoughts and sympathy to you all.
My parents (and my brother and I) lived next door to Jim's parents on Base Line Road, and our whole family became customers of Jim's at Tuer and Hughes downtown. I was very sorry to learn of Jim's passing. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many. My condolences to Jim's family.
My parents (and my brother and I) were neighbours of Jim's parents in Old South. Our whole family became customers of Jim's at Tuer and Hughes downtown. I was so sorry to learn that Jim had passed away. He will be fondly remembered and missed by many. My condolences to his family members.

What a wonderful gentlemen. We were one of his customers for many years. He was always smiling and so positive. Our thoughts are with you through this difficult time.
I was so shocked to hear of Jim's passing. I have known him for 56 years and he never changed....kind, sincere, low key and truly the essence of the gentle-man. There is no replacement for a man like Jim. I am sad for you Maryanne and for your family....Michael and I missed him when he retired.
So many happy memories of a Gentle Man taken too soon. Our loving thoughts are with you. xxoo
