Nevol had a unique and special way with friendships. His friendships spread the way a drop of water in a deep, clear pool spread through the whole., affecting everyone. I met him through Julia Dickinson, my friend of 49 years, and Nevol unhesitatingly took up a friendship with me from our first meeting when Julia introduced us. With condolences to all Nevol's family and friends, Elly Bade

Nevol has been my wonderful friend for over 23 years when I first met him while living in London. Since then and over the last 23 years, we have had many laughs and shared many memories, from restaurants to bars, Port Stanley to Toronto. When I lived in Arizona for a few years, Nevol and Guy St Denis came down to Phoenix for a week to visit and we had such a blast, including a great trip to Sedona. Nevol's kindness towards others, his peaceful, good nature, great sense of humor and friendship will be some of his great qualities that I will treasure as long as I live. He is an unforgettable person and friend and I will miss him dearly. Ian Wilcox

Even only having met Nevol one time, I feel I know him quite well through my sister, Julia Dickinson, who was a dear friend of his. The time we did meet was for dinner at Outback Steakhouse when he visited my sister several years ago. He had just bought a new I Phone and was so enthusiastic about showing us all the new features, telling us about apps (new at the time) etc., even my tech savvy daughter was very impressed! Our condolences to family and friends.

Nevol and our mutual friend Julia came to stay at our home in Norfolk, England, while on a trip to Europe. He was a delightful, kind, humorous guy and it was a pleasure to know him and be able to call him a friend. RIP Nevol - you were truly a good man. John and Jan

Nevol was a wonderful volunteer with the AIDS Committee of London (now Regional HIV/AIDS Connection) in the late 1980s and 90s. It was a scary time, but he provided calm, compassionate end-of-life care to many. Remembered with great fondness and respect.

~ Bruce Rankin

He was one of my Mom's best friends. I remember going to Niagara Falls with him and his companion as a little girl. He would spend the day with me, driving around town in his red car when he was a day courier in London. He was one of the few male role models in my life. He was funny, endlessly kind, quirky and I will miss him dearly. As I grew up, out of the sphere of my mother's world, we lost touch. I met him last September at the Western Fair where he worked the entrance. I was with my family and was lucky enough to chat with him a bit and introduce him to my daughter. As much as I will miss the opportunity to say good-bye, I'm glad that my final memory will be of him standing in the sunlight, doing something he enjoyed doing.

I could write pages about Nevol---he was my dearest beloved friend, confidante and international travel buddy of 21years. Gone too soon! He was, as most of you know, a unique man: loving, incredibly generous of his time, kind, funny, and willing to help someone even when he was ill. I met him (Anchorage Airport, 1997), he had a bottle of water. I asked him if he had bought the water at the airport, he said "yes, at the concession stand downstairs." I thanked him, walked away and he said: "I'll take you there." We learned we were taking the same ssRotterdam cruise (Seward to Vancouver). We became fast friends. We've taken many vacations together including the Inaugural 2007/2008 msQueen Victoria 16-day cruise (Southampton to the Canary Isles) & spent overnights at Niagara Falls & Toronto, as well as our homes. Our weekly conversations spanned the thousands of miles that separated us he in London, Ontario and me in the S.F. Bay Area, California. He & I introduced each other to many respective friends. Here he met my sis Barb, hubby John & daughter, Emma; my dearest friends/"family" of 49 years Elly & her hubby Bill (Math Ph.D.,UCB Emeritus); my Chabot College colleagues and my dearest, longtime friends in England. He charmed the socks of everybody! He made everyone feel like #1. They have all expressed their sorrow. Nevol's sweet spirit is spread far and wide. We were partners in a different sense. I am glad he is out of pain. I will miss him until the end of time. I hope that we carry on his unique gift of widening and enhancing friendships, as best we can, in this distraught world of ours. He will live on in each of us, reminding us to love everyone. He loved us all, in all of our quirky ways; with our faults and insensitivities he was such a true friend to us all. Julia Dickinson

As a casual Porter based at University Hospital I was asked if I would like some shifts at Victoria Hospital from time to time. Those shifts were mostly covering for and working with Bob and Nevol on the 3-11 pm shift. Nevol could not have been more helpful and friendly to me in finding my way around VH when I was a new Porter there. Years later when my wife went in to labour with our first child, and as a slightly panicked soon to be new father, I was rushing in from out of town around 10pm. Knowing Nevol was on duty I asked dispatch if he would be available to meet my wife and I at the door with a wheelchair to take her to the delivery room while I parked the car. Nevol was there ready and waiting for us as soon as we pulled up - my daughter however chose not to be so prompt and did not make her appearance until 11am the next day. Nevol will always hold a special place in the hearts of my wife and I for being part of that special moment in our lives. Our best wishes to his friends and family and may he rest in peace.

One of the kindest, most gentle people I've had the privilege to know and work with. Throughout my whole Vic experience, almost from the very beginning, there was Nevol, steady, never too busy to say hello. You could be having a day from .....and then Nevol would be there. Great guy. Heaven got a funny sweet angel.

Nevol had uncommon attributes. After knowing him for 35 years, what I can best attest to was his ability to make you feel familiar, an essential part of the moment that you shared with him. He was a man of infinite compassion who saw the best in others, and brought it to the fore. I will greatly miss meeting him in unexpected places where his hug would ensure me that I belonged, happily, in his world. This world is diminished for his loss. Where his Spirit resides is richer for his being there. Let the celebration begin!!

Nevol was a unique and special person. The beauty of Nevol lay in the mystery and depth of his relationships. He had many friends and acquaintances. Some of his best friends were the hidden gems in his life. Nevol is missed and will always be missed. The sorrow that is felt by numerous individuals will be soothed by the enthusiasm of the memories we have of our beloved friend.

~ David Kean

Friends like Nevol come around once in a lifetime. I'm just thankful for the privilege of having been a friend of his. Doug Stewart and I have fond memories of the many trips we took together with Nevol over the years. We had hoped to have many more. Is that being greedy? Not really, just being honest.

~ Jon Lidolt

Our deepest condolences. Many happy memories of very special gentle man who treated everyone with kindness. Will truly be missed. I personally would not be who I am if not for Nevol.

Nevol certainly had friends, and far more than any one obituary could possibly begin to enumerate. As all his many friends will attest, Nevol made everyone feel special - just like a "best friend."
