Neal Blackburn
January 15, 2018
Passed in peace on January 15, 2018 after a short illness in his 92nd year.
Neal was the devoted husband of Naomi (Munson) for 58 years, loving father of his daughters, Rae (Eric Keen) and April (Bill Albrecht), ever-proud grandfather of Charlotte, Benji, Teddy, Anthony, and Charlie.
Born in Peace River, Alberta, Neal graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemical engineering from the University of Alberta in 1948. He became a professional engineer and worked for 18 years in the petro-chemical industry before joining John Labatt Limited. He was associated with John Labatt for many years in Montreal and London, Ontario, retiring as Vice-President of Engineering Services.
Neal then embarked on his second career. Not one for golf, he studied computer programming and started his own online business, designing specialized programs used by engineers all over the world.
Neal was Vice-President of the Association of Professional Engineers of Ontario and designated as a Fellow by Engineers Canada. He was recognized by the YMCA for outstanding volunteer leadership and constructing the Bob Hayward YM-YWCA and also oversaw the development of a new Women’s Community House in London. Neal enjoyed the company of friends at the Probus Club of London, participating in several capacities, including President.
Dad loved to travel and share many happy times with his family in South Carolina.
Always up for a walk or just a bit of fun, we will miss Dad when we uncork a shiraz, stroll through Springbank Park, fly a kite, or escape for a holiday.
An eternal optimist, Dad taught us, “Things always work out.”
Cremation has taken place.
A celebration of Neal’s life will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London on Sunday, June 10, 2018 from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m.

I knew Neal as a member of the board of the Probus Club. After serving as president he served many years as the membership director. In this capacity he helped recruit new members and always made them feel welcome in the club. With his computer skills he assisted the club and individual members move into the age of information technology. He will be missed. Gord

Naomi and Family, Neal and I spent many hours travelling together on projects for Labatt. We had offices across from each other which led to many long and enjoyable discussions. Simply speaking, Neal was a great guy who taught me much.
Dear family, Neal was my boss in process engineering at Chemcell in Edmonton in 1965,and later at Labatts in London. He was a role model of great competence and decency, and a fine manager of people. A real influence in my life. Dr. Roger More

Dear Naomi, Rae and April we are so saddened by this news however are comforted knowing that he lived such a full life. A life he chose and a life full of challenging and fascinating endeavours. My mom (Neal's twin sister) used to fondly say that "Neal never knew a stranger"....I still repeat these words to my children. He had such a open and accepting heart and it was obvious he loved life and the people he knew. He will be truly missed but his memory will continue to inspire us all. Our prayers are with you, all our love Sandra and Michael.

Dear Naomi, and family. Our best wishes and condolences go out to you all. Neal was the light of my family every time he visited. My parents enjoyed every time he came to our home. As years passed I maturedi not only knew him as a neat uncle and as an adult I respected him as our family elder. He was always a positive influence and his humor made all discussions fun. This is also a great loss for me. Love Wayne
