Dr. A.C. ‘Craig’ MacDonald

April 20, 2017

Dr. A.C. “Craig” MacDonald passed away on Thursday, April 20th, 2017 with his immediate family present, grateful to have jointly passed him on to God and Heaven. He gave so much comfort and caring to others during his 45 years as a Medical Doctor, that we know God will welcome him with open arms. For his wife, Angie, he was the love of her life and she was the love of his life. For 65 years, they lived and loved each other to the fullest. As a young man, he entered medical school at the University of Western Ontario in the Korean War era under a Royal Canadian Air Force program to help subsidize his tuition costs. His wife, Angie, also worked at the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce to support his education.  Craig graduated in 1955 and did his internship at Victoria Hospital in London. Craig and Angie went West, serving at RCAF Base Claresholm, Alberta and RCAF Base Gimli, Manitoba. Craig and Angie returned to London, Ontario in 1960. Craig did his residency in radiology at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario and then succeeded to a McLoughlin Scholarship at Hammersmith Hospital in London, England where he learned pioneering techniques in cardiac catheterization. In 1965, this was cutting edge and still is a strategic tool, and Craig taught so many residents that his name is still well-known across Canada. In 1965, Craig became a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians.  Even today, some 20 years after he stopped being a practicing radiologist, you can google his name on the internet and you can see his publications, joint articles and research. His life was more than medicine: he was a husband, a father, a grandfather and, most recently, a great-grandfather. He was a gardener, a golfer, a fisherman in his day, a college football player, a clinical professor, and professor emeritus at the University of Western Ontario. But most of all, he was Angie’s husband, a father, a caring brother to his sister Lois, a grandfather, a great-grandfather, a brother-in-law, a friend and a colleague. Craig will be missed but still loved especially by his loving wife Angie; daughter Karen; sons Russ, Mark and David; daughters-in-law Susan, Anna and Sheila; son-in-law Doug; grandchildren: Trevor, Jordan, Melanie, Ben, Kristen, Carter, Charlie, Morgan and Claire; and great-grandson Henry. A private family memorial service will be held. Please give any donations in memoriam to The Salvation Army.

Dad, we wish you calm and kindness on your way home.

The MacDonald clan motto is “Per Mare, Per Terras”:

may it guide you to get where you deserve to be.

Love, your wife Angie, family and friends
