Thomas Wood

March 24, 2017

Tom died peacefully in London on March 24th, 2017 in his 93rd year.  He will be lovingly missed by his wife of 57 years, Barbara (Hickson); his children Steven (Julie), Fraser and Linda (Gerald Wilton); grandchildren Cameron and James; Colin, Kelsey, Tommy and Gracen; Amanda and Lindsay Wilton; and extended family and friends across Canada. Tom worked for Simpson’s and Household Finance. He ended his distinguished career at SCM Delmag as General Manager, Canada. He was a passionate volunteer and gave his time willingly to the Shriners, political campaigns, young people’s programs and the Legion. Tom proudly received a Minister of Veterans Affairs Commendation in 2004 acknowledging his more than 25 years assisting veterans. He was a natural athlete and used this skill to teach his core values of honesty, hard work and community service. Tom coached boxing, track, football, lawn bowling and (his great love) hockey while in service with the YMCA, the Navy and many hockey teams. Tom was one of the first to achieve CAHA’s Level V in the National Coaches Certification Program and taught many Level I & II courses to hockey coaches across Canada. The family is very thankful for the compassionate and gentle care Tom received at Parkwood Institute, Western Counties Wing. A celebration for family and friends will be held on Saturday, April 1st, 2017 beginning with speeches at 3:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. Memorial donations to the Alzheimer Society or Parkwood Institute would be appreciated.

Our. Condolences to Barb & Family. Worked with Tom at HFC for many years. Will always remember his generosity in providing our son with some hockey equipment to get him started and later inviting him to one of Tom's hockey camps.

Barb--Thank you for your call re the sad news of Tom's passing. He was a fine man and had a very successful career at HFC. I have passed on the information to many of his former associates at Household. I knew him a little bit when I worked in Toronto, but Freda and I really got to know him and you during the HFC Retiree Reunions. We well remember the last time we saw you and Tom. We were on our way to Toronto to visit family a few years ago and we stopped in London to see you and Tom for dinner. I remember he picked up the check for dinner, proving once again he was generous with both his time and his money. A generous Scotsman!! You and your family are in our thoughts. Harv
