Dan Elmen Efford
November 24, 2016
Passed away suddenly at Victoria Hospital in the early morning of November 24, 2016, on the heels of celebrating his 75th birthday the week before. Survived by his loving wife Suzanne and adored father of four children: Brad Efford, Jean-Paul Efford, Joelle Efford-Gibbons and the late Danielle Efford (2012); and father-in-law to Lisa Efford, Ian Gibbons and Katie Harding. Loving grandfather of Braeden, Lucas, Haida and Simone. A proud native of Newfoundland, Dan had a long and fruitful career in print media, first at The Canadian Press in Toronto, followed by 29 years at The London Free Press. We will greatly miss his curious mind, creativity and love of laughter. A memorial service will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, December 2nd, 2016 at 3:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dan are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice of London.

I think it was Tolkien who said, "deep roots are not reached by the frost." Danny had such roots and was comfortable in his own skin. Spend five minutes with the man and you knew that. In fact, I can't think of Newfoundland without hearing Dan lament about his boat crying for the salt water of the Maritimes. Powerful stuff. Sincere condolences to the Efford clan. Hang in there, Suzanne.
We are thinking of you and your family today and in the days ahead. We remember Dan for his kindness and love for his love of family. We are sending you our love and sincere sympathy.
Dear Sue, Brad, Jean-Paul, Joelle and family, We are sorry for your loss. Dan was so witty, genuine and kind. He will be missed by so many people. We are keeping you all in our thoughts and prayers. Sincere condolences
Dear Mrs effort, Brad, Jean-Paul, and Joelle, Dick & I are very sad to hear of Mr. Efford's passing. It is a blessing that he did not have a long time of suffering and had recently celebrated with family & friends all together for his 75th. However, I imagine it is difficult that you did not get a chance to try to prepare to say goodbye. I hope that you are surrounded by love and faith to bring you strength at this difficult time, hope that he is with God, and eventually peace in your spirit. Love from Heather-Jane

Dear Sue and Family: Words are inadequate at times like this but rest assured that I share your pain and sorrow. Can't say enough good things only that Danny was one of the good guys with his infectious sense of humour. I recall the good times we had over the years and those are the memories that we will always cherish. I think that's what Carolyn would like me to say. God bless.
