Geertruida ‘Truus’ Albertha Bons (née Jekel)
November 20, 2016
Passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 at the age of 90. Beloved wife of the late Rev. Cornelis “Cor” Gerardus Bons (1994). Mother of Conroy (Monica) and Trudy Ann. Grandmother of Jeremy and Tim and the families they are creating. Also grieved by her Persian grand-kitty Tosca whom she adored. Truus was an avid roller skater as a youth. She loved animals and, as a child and teen, was responsible for her family’s acquisition of several dogs and several cats (most notably Trixie, Nortje and Bobby). Her teen years (age 14-19) were during World War II when the Netherlands was under siege. As a young woman, Truus freelanced as a seamstress. She also worked in a department store selling baby clothes and items. Truus loved to knit, sew and crochet. At the age of 27, after a 7 year courtship, she married the love of her life Cor (Zeist, Netherlands) and they immigrated to Canada. They pastored Reformed Church in America (RCA) churches in Brockville, Barrie and Woodstock. Finally, she sacrificially supported Cor in his role as the first Executive Secretary for the RCA’s “Council of the Reformed Church in Canada” where he spent much time travelling across Canada overseeing constituent churches and where he envisioned and set the groundwork for a “Regional Synod of Canada” within the RCA (which became a reality in 1993). Special thanks to: Nancy Smith a shining light in Truus’ life; Marcy, Amy, Sandra and Irina who chose kindness, gentleness, patience, compassion and love when caring for Truus at McGarrell Place; and to physiotherapy assistant, Nabil, for gentle acceptance, kindness and encouragement. The funeral service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Wednesday, November 23rd, 2016 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation one hour prior. Interment at Forest Lawn Memorial Gardens. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Truus are asked to consider a charity of their choice.

May the God of Gentle Compassion watch over you as you mourn the loss of your beloved and courageous mother and friend to Tosca. Your mother sounds like she was a spirited and loving person. Keep her memory alive by sharing the goodness she birthed in your heart and your mutual love of animals. Peace eternally to your mother and hugs for you, Trudy.
I admired your Mom's humbleness, grace and caring way by which she made me feel special whenever I met her. As the recently retired Executive Secretary of the Regional Synod of Canada, I understand (or my wife does more) her support for Cor and how important that was. I also appreciated your father's vision for the RCA in Canada and his counsel when I considered entering the ministry. I felt honoured when you mother invited me to be a pallbearer at his funeral. Margaret and I pray that you will be comforted during this time and have pleasant memories of your Mom.
Dearest Trudy, reading your mom's lifestory makes me see what a courrageous person she was, taking up a new life with her husband in beautiful Canada and dedicating themselves to the wrod of God and their family. Loving all creatures, having a big heart for animals, that is what is for me the most important in a person. You where lucky to fhave her and her legacy will be with your family. And she is with her husband again.
Conrad: I was saddened to hear of your Mom's passing. May the memories of your Mom and the love of family surround you and give you strength in the days ahead. Wishing you as much peace as possible during this difficult time. Jim
