Arun Chandra Dey
October 21, 2016
It is with profound sadness the Dey family announces the passing of our patriarch Arun Chandra Dey on Friday, October 21, 2016, surrounded by his family at University Hospital, London. Born in Kolkata, India on June 30, 1936, Arun was the eldest boy with six siblings. Lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife of 47 years Dipti, and by his devoted children: Ayon Dey (Sangita) and Trisha Czepiela (Steven). Cherished ‘Dadu’ to his grandchildren: Anil and Hari. Lovingly remembered by his many family members, nieces, nephews and lifelong friends from St. John’s, NL, London, ON, India and his university years. Arun led a remarkable life and touched the lives of everyone he met – both as a Chemistry teacher at Memorial University and as a member of our family and the St. John’s community. He was a committed community builder devoting much of his time to the establishment of the St. John’s Hindu Temple. We will miss Arun’s gentle and kind presence, wise advice, way with plants and gourmet meals. Cremation has taken place. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 26th, 2016 from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m. at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London. A Celebration of Life will take place at the St. John’s Hindu Temple in November. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in Arun’s memory are asked to consider the St. John’s Hindu Temple or Ronald McDonald House.

I am deeply saddened to learn of this news, Ayon. My thoughts are with you and your family at this time. May Arun rest in peace.
Please accept our heartfelt condolence at your loss dear Deepti Ayon and Trisha May God give you courage to get through this hard time. With regards.
We pray to our Lord Bhagawan Sri Sathya Sai Baba for His blessings to the soul that appeared in this life as Arun Dey. As the saying goes, every soul is chosen in this world to work for a mission however small or big it may be. We as their (Arun da and Dipti di) family friends observed over the years how, apart from his workplace, Arun da was working for the community in St. John's with selfless love and respect for others. In the midst of all busy works and challenges in life, four of us also spent some free times together going for a long drive through and doing mini-family picnic, and enjoying the nature, etc. Arun da will be missed! He was proud of his children and children of other members of the society as well, thus encouraging all with positive spirits; a wonderful human quality. Once again may Sai Baba bless the soul and the family.
My sincere condolences Dipti, to you and your family on the passing of Arun. I will miss his quiet ways, charming smile and my favourite "Hawaiian shirt" at the meal table at Chartwell. He was a lovely man and he will be greatly missed. Be sure to think often of your many travel adventures. When you spoke of them, it brought a huge smile to his face as did the presence of his family.
Arun da and Deepti di are wonderful, beautiful and amazingly nice person. They attract our heart in a very short period of time in London. We pray for his departed soul to be in eternal peace of tranquility.
Our heart felt condolences to Diptidi, Ayon, Sangita, Trisha, Steven and extended family. We will all miss Arunda dearly. Hindu Temple in St John's has lost a true patron. The true tribute to Arunda would be to emulate his quality of a simple living karma yogi. Our thoughts and prayers are with the members of the family
We will miss Arunda a lot. His generous and positive spirit, cheerful disposition and zeal for life, practical insights, and deep spirituality will be fondly remembered by us. His gift to us about the prayer verses will be cherished by us. Will miss his gardening tips immensely. Now that he has passed on to his onward journey, we pray for his eternal peace and salvation .
Arun was my friend from almost the day he arrived in Palo Alto, California area in 1964 (?). He resided in the city of Mountain View, California. I do not remember the exact date and time when I met him but we never lost touch since that day. Arun had an uncanny ability to make friends simply because he had such a very sunny and warm outlook in life. I spoke with him in the hospital only two weeks ago and he told me his health was in the upswing and may be someday he would get better to go home. Arun was a fabulous cook and taught my first wife Auri how to cook Indian food and Auri and Arun became as fast friends as two people could be. After Auri passed away Arun and Dipu introduced me to my second wife Chumkie (over a few 7000 mile phone conversations) and Chumkie and Arun's family also became fast friends. Even though Arun's family lived far away in Newfoundland we did visit each other a few times. Together we covered a lot of land mass as we took many car trips over time. I know I will miss my very good friend and I feel for the loss his loving family will experience for many years to come. I love Arun and I love his entire family. God is happy to receive such a soul back to His kingdom. God bless Arun's family so they can survive this loss on earth. Prasun and Chumkie Mukherjee (Warren, Michigan, USA)
