HEAD, Robert Colin – 1939-2015
“Everything was almost perfect”
Following a rich and happy life, Bob passed away on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at the age of 75 from heart-related problems. Beloved husband for 51 years of Carol Lynne (née Jacques). Loving father of Stephen of Guelph, Gordon (Milena) of Ancaster, and Donald (Carrie) of Oakville. Bob was the adored Poppa of Megan and Evan. He was the son of Marion (née Smeltzer) and Melville Head. He is survived by his sister Patricia (Jim Williams), niece Carolyn (Richard Williams), nephew Andrew, and grand-nephew Oliver. A beloved teacher and mentor for 33 years, he inspired the passion for music among countless number of students. He taught for the Toronto District School Board and the Thames Valley District School Board (Beck, Banting, Lucas and Saunders). He was a co-founder of the National Music Camp of Canada and was its inaugural Music Director for 31 years. His passion for music was felt around the world, as he introduced the classroom method of teaching music in Germany for almost 8 years. An avid bridge player, who was just short of his Gold Life Master. Later in life he discovered the thrill and frustration of the Links. His infectious laugh could be heard across the golf course as he thoroughly enjoyed playing with good friends and family. Relatives and friends will be received at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where the memorial service will be conducted on Monday, March 2, 2015 at 1:00 p.m., with visitation one hour prior. Reception to follow the service. In lieu of flowers, those wishing to make a donation in memory of Bob are asked to consider the National Music Camp of Canada – Scholarship Fund, London Health Sciences Centre – Cardiac Fitness Institute or the Robert Head Music Award at Sir Frederick Banting S.S.

I was saddened to hear of Mr. Head's death. My heart goes out to his family. I was a student of Mr. Head's at Beck during the late 60s and feel I must thank him for helping foster my love of music. He taught me to play alto sax, which I still play in the Forest Excelsior Band. I have had a huge amount of pleasure over the years from playing the sax and it all started with Mr. Head's great teaching. I remember him being very enthusiastic and funny yet still demanding in the best possible way. He took us to Toronto to play and he had us to his house for a band party. He introduced us to the band Chicago when they first burst upon the music scene by playing their album in class. Most importantly for me, he really encouraged me to play. When he left Beck I thought about dropping music but I remember thinking that Mr. Head would not want me to do that. As an adult, I became a teacher and even though I didn't teach music, I tried to be the kind of teacher Mr. Head was. As a teacher I met Dave Williams and was surprised to learn he had a strong connection to Mr. Head. Dave and I shared stories about what a wonderful guy Mr. Head was. Again, my heart goes out to Mr. Head's family but I hope they know that he will always be remembered by me. Thank you, Mr. Head, for instilling the love of music in me.

Dear Carol and Family: I was saddened and shocked to hear of Bob's passing. I send my warmest empathy for your loss. As you may remember, Bob and I first met when he was at Lawrence Park C.I. , and later worked together in OMEA, IMC, and OSLC. He was a wonderful colleague and friend with multiple talents. I regret not being able to attend his memorial service, but I can assure you my thoughts were there. Sincerely, Glen Wood
I taught with Bob for many years. He was a great teacher and an inspiration to all of us. I enjoyed his sense of humour and approach to life. He will be missed.
Carol and Family, I was very saddened to hear of Bob's passing. Bob and I were colleagues at Saunders, and I was struck by his vivacious zest for life when I first met him. He was a whirlwind of positive energy and zaniness, and a joy to be around. Always remarkably open about his heart problems, he never succumbed to the urge to complain or feel sorry for himself. In this respect - and in many others as well - Bob was an inspiring man. My heartfelt condolences. Sandy and Laurie
I am very sorry to hear of Mr Head's passing. I was one of his Banting students. He was a wonderful music teacher, passionate about music and with a great (though understated and dry) sense of humour. He had enormous energy and all of his students enjoyed the school band trips/exchanges that he organized throughout the '70s to various parts of North America--I remember fondly trips to Ottawa (where I now live) as well as Ithaca, NY. In addition to instilling a love for music, he also helped the teenagers in his care mature, which was a real labour of love. My deepest sympathies for the Head family, he will be missed.
Carol I am very sorry for your loss, although we have never met it still is a matter of sadness when anyone louses a spouse & best friend.
Mrs. Head, Steve, Gord and Don I was really sorry to hear about Mr. Head's passing. I hope that all of you find peace and cherish your memories. We are thinking of you. Charlie
Dear Carol and family. So sorry to hear the news. Our thoughts are with you. Bob will always be remembered for his friendly smile, his kindness and his love of music. He will be missed for sure. Joan and Bill.
Dear Carol and Family Our entire family, Kate, Meagan, Jean and Doug are deeply sadden by the loss of Bob. He invited us to National Music Camp in the 8o's and it brought an experience so special that our conversations often recall those days with pride, fondness, and laughter. It was through "Camp" that our respect and admiration for Bob deepened. It was that experience that allowed us the privilege to call Bob a close family friend and colleague. His smile and counsel will be with us, however, his absence leaves us with an ache of loss. Our thoughts are with you in this dark time and know that Bob continues to have a profound presence in our lives. The Shippey Family
Carol & Family: I was sad to hear that Bob had passed away. He was National Music Camp. For me, it goes back to the beginning when we always stayed after Wahanowin for NMC. My brother Jeffrey played in the band and I tried the orchestra one year. Bob was NMC and will be very much missed. My heart felt condolences to you all.
Carol and Family, I was very sad to hear of Bob's passing, he was a very kind man who will be remembered fondly always smiling through long days officiating at the swim meets! I will be thinking of you all as you celebrate his life on Monday. Lisa
