Frederick “Fred” Andrew McNaught
January 22, 2015
Peacefully, with his family by his side at Victoria Hospital, on Thursday, January 22, 2015. Beloved husband of Elaine. Loving father of Debra (Patrick) Walko, Susan (John) Sands, and Fraser (Lidia) McNaught, and step-father of Karen (Sandy) Harrington and Derek (Wendy) Henderson. Proud Papa of Leah, Eryn, Logan, Emily, Maeve, Liv, Angus, Lucy and Emma. Dear brother of Ebeth Graham; brother-in-law of: Gwen MacNaught, Bernard McMullen, Larry Wilson and Dwight (Gayle) Esler. Also missed by many loving nieces, nephews and dear friends. Predeceased by his first wife, Molly; brother, John MacNaught; sister, Moyra McMullen; brother-in-law, Mac Graham, and sister-in-law, Marg Wilson. In addition to his family life, Fred was an educator and a business executive, who valued people. He had a keen interest in politics, sports, coaching and charitable work. Fred inspired many, through his charisma, passion and sense of humour. As he told his grandchildren: “when you wake up each morning, make a commitment to do something kind for someone every day.” At Fred’s request, there will be no visitation or service. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Fred are asked to consider Canadian Tire Jumpstart or LOFT Community Services.

My Uncle Fred: everyone is sitting around the dinner table, having an obligatory, post-Christmas feast chat, and he pulls me out of the room and says he needs to show me something. I follow him into the kitchen, and he pulls out a deck of cards and says he is going to teach me a trick. The excitement in his eyes is contagious; you can tell he’s taught this trick before but he’s still thrilled about teaching it again. He shows me how we’re going to fool everyone into thinking that he can read my mind. So, we go back into the dining room, and fool everyone we do. Fred has the whole crowd going, and the room is his. As a young teenager, I remember thinking how cool this guy was, interrupting a bunch of talking to do something fun. I still love that trick, but I know the true magic was his spirit. Always kind and always generous, he will be dearly missed.

I am so sad to hear of Fred's passing. I also knew his Mother and Father's family quite well. My family, the Jamiesons, were with the McNaughts in New Brunswick and Sarnia. Elspeth Jamieson Withers, London

Elaine I'm so terribly sorry for your loss. My thoughts & prayers are with you at this time.
Dear Elaine, Deb, Susan, Fraser and all your loved ones. I have been in touch with my girls and boys reliving the times spent together with their Uncle Fred over the years, but, especially during when they were young. Times at Nana and Gramps house . Times in Ottawa when he taught school at Renfrew. At the Lake when Nana turned 80.Fred gave every kid a ride on ---was that Susie's horse? At our Lake----his orange cover-all ----Uncle Fred--COOL. I value the many, many times he phoned me after John died----just to let me know he was there. He is in a better place now, having left a special place in the heart of each of us in our family. Love to all of you from Gwen, Johnny, Joanne, Billy, Kevin, Elizabeth
So sorry to hear of Fred's passing. We first met Fred at Northern (1956 when it opened) in Sarnia. He was a great guy and will be missed by all. Condolences to Fred's family - God Bless you all!
I worked with Fred at Xerox in Sarnia. I have fond memories of Fred and remember his sense of humour, calm presence and love of the lake. Rest in peace, Fred.
