Peacefully at Gateway Haven Nursing Home in Wiarton on Sunday, July 13, 2014 in her 103rd year. Beloved wife of the late William Omer Misener (1990). Loving mother of Jean Misener and Marion Hanke (Randy). Devoted Grandmother of Mark, Karen, Michelle, Ryan, Jamie, Marty and Kristen, and great grandmother of Kiah, Kendall and Austin. Born in Brantford, Ontario in 1912, Dora was raised in Paisley. She graduated from Stratford Normal School in 1932 and began her teaching career in Paisley for $600 per year. She then attended Macdonald Institute, getting her teaching certificate for Home Economics. Dora’s teaching career continued in Cargill, Zurich and finally London. She married William Misener in 1945, retired and raised her 2 daughters. Dora returned to teaching grade 7 and 8 Home Economics with the London Board of Education from 1961 to 1972 at Westdale and Tecumseh Elementary schools. In 1979, Dora and Bill retired to the Bruce Peninsula, making their home on the North Shore of Colpoys Bay. Dora’s 100th birthday was celebrated at Horizon Manner. She was a proud member of Trinity Anglican Church, the Colpoys Bay Women’s Institute and New Horizons Group. A memorial service will be conducted at Trinity Anglican Church, 491 Gould Street, Wiarton on Saturday, August 2, 2014 at 12:00 Noon, with visitation from 11:30 a.m. until the time of service. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Dora are asked to consider the Heart & Stroke Foundation of Ontario, Grey Bruce Health Services (the Wiarton or Owen Sound Hospital) or Trinity Anglican Church (Wiarton).

Never met Dora...but Jenna always bragged about Grammy...I know she sees all the fun you have let us have at cottage.... Girls weekend away I am sure she smiles.....she will smile down once baby hanke born....I know kids were hopeful she would see their girl...she will be smiling!!!! Pat

Our sympathy to the family in the loss of Dora. We had been happy to have her return as a Life member of RWTO, and know she enjoyed her last years at Gateway Haven. We will miss her courageous spirit and sense of fun. May she rest in peace.
