Sharon Murphy

October 29, 2013

On Tuesday, October 29th, 2013 we said goodbye to Sharon who died peacefully after a lifelong battle during which she inspired us with her eternal optimism, strength and courage. She was a loving and caring daughter of Leo Murphy and Margaretta (nee Sheflin) Murphy. She will be missed by her three brothers: Terry, Kevin and Dennis and their families. Sharon had a wonderfully varied career as a teacher, co-ordinator and principal. She volunteered tirelessly for many organizations including the Canadian Cancer Society, The Arthritis Society and the Robarts Centre. She loved the arts, especially classical music and literature, and travel for big and small adventures. We all remember Sharon for her cheerful phone calls and thoughtful letters. She touched the hearts, minds and souls of her students, colleagues, relatives and friends. Special thanks to the marvelous staff and nurses on the 8th floor and the I.C.U. at University Hospital in London. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Sunday from 2:00 – 5:00 p.m. with prayers at 2:00 p.m.  Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Joseph’s Parish, 89 Charles Street, London, on Monday, November 4th, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.  Private family interment, Assumption Cemetery, Mississauga. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, the Arthritis Society or the London Health Sciences Foundation.

Dearest Dennis, Joanne and the Murphy family, My sincerest condolences and prayers on behalf of myself and Christina during this time of grief and sorrow. May you all cherish many, many great memories of time spent together, and may she now rest in peace. In knowing such a great person in Dennis, and with Joanne by his side, I truly hope you all find comfort in grieving together as a family, as no bond is stronger and no love is greater than that of family. All through this past year, I have marvelled at Sharon's optimism and uncomplaining way. She has been a great friend in so many ways and one that I will miss dearly . . . all the telephone calls, her thoughtful gifts whatever the occasion, our lunches and dinners out, trips to Stratford and Bayfield. Here I am in Mexico where she visited us twice. I am sorry that when I get home and look across the parking lot from my apartment building to hers, I will know that she is not there. However, I know that she is now in Heaven and her body is once more restored and her amazing spirit lives on in all of us who were so blessed to call her friend..

Thank you Sharon for being such a special spirit. Although we meet while you where in hospital you displayed such courage and cheerfulness; inspiring others and making our working day so pleasant. I always looked forward to going into your room and having our conversations about many topics. I will miss you but I know there is another angel looking down on all of us now. Good bye Sharon and thank you. To Sharon's family I will keep you in my prayers at this difficult time.

I shared a room with Sharon on two different occasions earlier this year. We spent Christmas Day 2012 and New Year 2013 together! I visited her occassionally throughout the year as I returned for my follow-up appointments, and I just found out this past week that Sharon passed away. My family and I are sorry we missed her funeral. I was in absolute awe of Sharon's positivity, it was unfailing. She will live on in my memories as she will always be part of my story.
