Salvatore (Sam) Di Carlo

September 4, 2013

DI CARLO, Salvatore – Salvatore (Sam) Di Carlo, in his 87th year, peacefully on September 4, 2013 at University Hospital, London, Ontario.  Sam was born in Bomba, Italy to Donato Di Carlo and Anita Nelli on April 11, 1927.  He married Maria Giuseppa Di Carlo in 1950 in Italy.   Sam came to Canada in mid-1951 to find employment.  He eventually settled in London, Ontario and sent for his wife and son.  Sam and Maria raised their son, Donato, in London.  Sam worked for 35 years at Labatts and enjoyed many friendships there.  After he retired, Sam travelled and spent many winters in Florida.  He especially enjoyed working from early spring to late fall in his very large garden, a love which he communicated to his only granddaughter, Nicole.  The two spent many happy hours together watering plants and weeding.  Sam is predeceased by his parents and his dear wife, Maria.  Sam will be greatly missed by his son, Donato; daughter-in-law, Cynthia; and his granddaughter, Nicole, all of London, Ontario; his brother Nicola of Italy, brothers Giacomo “Jack” and Carlo Di Carlo and sisters-in-law Julia (Nicola), Lina (Jack), and Anna (Carlo) as well as numerous nieces and nephews.  Special thanks to the kind staff at Amica for the extra care they gave to Sam in the past few weeks. Visitation will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday September 6th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. with prayers following.  The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. John the Divine, 390 Baseline Road West on Saturday, September 7th at 11:00 am with Father Pio D’Oria officiating. Burial will follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society.

Dear Don, Cynthia and Nicole, Although we've never met your father, we knew he was much loved and will be greatly missed. A man who teaches his grandchild about gardening and leaves a legacy of music has surely been a blessing to the world. Our thoughts are of you at this very sad time. Carol and Ken

Sam was a very special man whom I shall miss very much along with his dear wife, my friend Maria. I spent many a time sharing stories and laughing with them both at their kitchen table, hearing of their adventures and of their beloved Bomba. I enjoyed his passion for life, his hard working ethics and admired his kindness towards people, I am happy he is with his Maria now. Our sympathy to Don, Cynthia, Nicole and the family.
