John David Conley

April 19, 2013

John passed away suddenly at home, on Friday, April 19, 2013, with his friend Honey (his yellow Labrador) at his side.  John was a longtime resident of London who was a successful entrepreneur and computer programmer (especially working with GoodLife Fitness Clubs).  John worked for over twenty years as a firefighter and Fire Prevention Officer, and retired as Assistant Director of Fire Training Division.  A self-professed Jack-of-all-trades, John worked in forestry, forest fire prevention, teaching, and assisted in developing music software programs. He was a dedicated Freemason, and a past member of the Mocha Shrine and Mocha Trumpet Band.  John was also a devoted member of the Plumbing Factory Brass Band.  He was an enthusiastic musician, avid photographer, chef and reader, and he spent countless hours enjoying and capturing the beauty of nature.  Beloved husband to Diane Conley, and loving son to Donald ‘Jack’ and Arla Maye Conley of London.  Proud father to Jack (Jennifer), John Jr., Robert (Isabelle), and Renee (Lewis) Conley.  Cherished grandfather to Fionn.  Dear brother to Philip (Christina) Conley of London, Mark (Norma) Conley of London, Margaret (Howard) Johnson of White Rock, B.C. and Mary (Lorne) Gait of Ladysmith, B.C.  He will also be sadly missed by numerous nephews and nieces, many cousins and dear friends.  Family will receive friends and relatives on Monday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. and on Tuesday from 2:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, where a memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, April 23, 2013 at 3:00 p.m.  Donations to a charity of your choice on John’s behalf would be appreciated.

How wonderful it will be when we all arrive in glory and there will be my cousin John and so many that have gone before. Won't be long John, within the context of eternity we're nearing home. To my cousins Mary, Margaret, Mark and Phillip and my Aunt Arla and Uncle Jack, I love you all and will pray for peace and the feeling of God's closeness and comfort in your lives. Praise God for His redeeming love.

Deepest sympathies and condolences to you, Diane, and John's family, friends and acquaintances. He will be fondly and humorously remembered yet sorrowfully missed. I always looked forward to his photographs of nature; he had an excellent eye for capturing the right angle, light and expressing his appreciation of the beauty in his work. John's intellect, sense of humour, and opinions were things I always relished as well. Even when we disagreed, which was certainly here and there, I admired and respected his 'take' on almost any topic, and had looked forward to many such debates and hilarity to come. The band in Heaven just got better, the debate team also...way better. Respectfully, Peter McDonald

Beth and I offer our deepest sympathies to Diane and family... and Honey. I have been blessed during the short time that I knew John, through the Plumbing Factory Brass Band. I am very saddened that our friendship and time together was cut short. We had such a common background and had so many stories to share. John was a dedicated student of life and his legacy and ongoing joie de vivre will continue to inspire others. Diane, you too have been an inspiration as I witnessed you so loving looking after John, supporting his involvement, yet being behind him with your encouragement. John will be missed!

I met John through the pharmacy I used to work at. He was such a quite and wonderfully dignified man. Even when he was in pain he upbeat and friendly. I really enjoyed my conversations with him and learned a few things too.He loved to talk and show me some of his pictures. Honey was such a joy to see and you could see the love she had for John in her eyes. John was taken too soon, but God has a plan for all and it must be something better. I know John will be missed by all. My heartfelt sympathy to you Diane and all your family.

I'm sorry to read of John's passing in the newspaper. He was a very enjoyable person and customer of mine. We spent many hours together talking about photography. He will be missed. All the best to the family.

My deepest sympathy goes to the whole family at this difficult time. Praying that God will comfort you and give you His peace.

I never met John in person - he joined a web forum on photography while he was enjoying his latest camera - and I was at the time a voluntary forum moderator there. With the forum being an international text-only space and me being German, I learned a lot from how John was able to put his view of things on our hobby into words employing his special sense of humor. I even learned from his ramblings. It was made public on that forum today that John is now taking pictures in heaven. So my condoloescences to his beloved only today.
