Danielle Suzanne Efford
May 16, 1965 – August 14, 2012
Danielle passed away peacefully in her 48th year at University Hospital in London, Ontario. She fought a courageous and inspirational battle against ALS for 5 years.
She is survived by her loving parents Daniel and Suzanne Efford and three siblings, brothers Bradley, sister-in-law Lisa, and Jean-Paul and sister Joelle Efford–Gibbons, brother-in-law Ian. She will also be sadly missed by her nephew Lucas and her niece Haida. Her aunts, uncles and cousins are also heartbroken by her passing.
Danielle was a graduate of Hotel and Restaurant Management at Ryerson Polytechnical in Toronto, but her life took her on many different paths. She travelled extensively throughout the world and lived and worked throughout Europe, including Switzerland and England. She also worked in Australia, Japan and Korea as well as at orphanages in Thailand and Malaysia. She travelled throughout southeast Asia and China as well.
Danielle joined the RCMP in 1992. Her passion for policing made her a true inspiration for her colleagues and the people she served. She worked undercover before becoming the Media Relations Officer for the RCMP in British Columbia. After 10 years of service, she left to pursue passions as mentioned above. She returned to Canada in 2008 and once again worked for the RCMP as a civilian member working on policy analysis.
The memorial service will be conducted at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Friday, August 17th, 2012 at 4:30 p.m. with visitation one hour prior to the service. Post Memorial Celebrations will take place at RCMP Headquarters Mess Hall at 130 Dufferin Avenue, London.
At Danielle’s request, please refrain from wearing any black or dark clothing.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations (by cheque) would be gratefully accepted by ALS Ontario, 402-3100 Steeles Avenue East, Markham, Ontario L3R 8T3, or you may donate at the ALS website.

We are so sorry to hear about Danielle's passing. I can't believe that we didn't know. We both worked with Danielle in Burnaby, as well as in Ottawa when she worked as a CM for the RCMP. We lost touch when her health issues had lead to her to being unable to work. My condolences to her family, she truly was a wonderful smiling person. She will be sadly missed. XO
As a professional visiting Danielle, I was always impressed by her obvious vitality, positive attitude, and sense of humour. I would like to extend my sincere condolences to her family and friends.
I met Danielle when we were both teaching in Seoul in 2005. Her positivity and her laughter were infectious and I am grateful that our friendship continued when we returned to Canada. I will miss her spirit and our talks enormously but I take comfort in that she is now at peace. My deepest condolences to all of her family and friends.
Dan, Sue and Family: Sincere condolences on the loss of your beloved Danielle. My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Dear Dan, Sue and Family, Deepest condolences on the loss of your precious daughter Danielle. My thoughts and prayers are with you all.
Dan, Suzanne, Jean-Paul, Joelle, and Brad. This loss is so great. I am in awe of Danielle's and your strength during these past years. She was a great true friend. I will carry her with me. And in keeping with her wishes and amazing spirit, it will be through celebration. Love Louise
Though I missed the opportunity to know you.... I had never met Danielle but I know the world lost an incredible person when she died and that heaven has been blessed with her as an angel. So active in her life, making the world a better place and living to the fullest, I am sure that she will be welcomed by God. "God seen her getting tired, A cure not meant to be... So he wrapped his arms around her, And whispered "Come with me." God bless Danielle's family and friends as the mourn their loss and share their memories. Kim Pollard Thede (Andre Coulombe's girlfriend)
I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to Danielle's family. I had the great pleasure and honour of being Danielle's supervisor at RCMP HQ in Ottawa. Danielle came to work everyday with a smile on her face and so eager to take on a new challenge, despite the personal challenges she was facing. She was always so positive and hopeful and truly inspirational. We had three "Danielles" working within 10 ft of each other so we chose nicknames for each Danielle. She chose "Suki". She was loved by all of us who came to know her. We were sad when she told us of her decision to stop working but we understood and hoped that she'd get better and return one day. Suki is missed by her RCMP family. Supt. Rosemary Abbruzzese
I am sorry for your loss. We worked together at Mcdonalds, and her sparkly eyes and big smile were infectious. Although, I didn't keep in touch with her she has certainly had a profound impact on many. Her hand on this earth will forever be felt. Shari Fox-Burgess
My thoughts and prayers are with the whole Efford family at this time. I went to grade one with Danielle at St. Georges and seeing her picture in the paper her beautiful eyes and big smile I recognized her right away she had not changed. Since meeting her my favorite name was Danielle. My oldest child is named Danielle. Although we were young and we were only in school for a few years I have never forgotten her-she had a sparkle when we were little and reading her obituary she obviously affected many others with her special gifts. God Bless
Please accept my deepest condolances for your loss. I had the honour of working with Danielle during the Media Relations portion of her career with the RCMP and always found her to be a joy to work with. She was always positive, genuinely supportive, compassionate and fun - traits which are a true asset in this field of work. Danielle truly touched many people and she will be sorely missed. May you find comfort in happy memories of such a lovely lady; your family is in my heart, thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.
Though I only met Danielle a couple of times in Montreal I will keep her spirit in my heart. She showed me the correct way of making Matcha Tea, so whenever I enjoy a cup, I always think of her. I wish all of the Effords comfort. As in life, the light she brought to the world continues on.
I am so very sorry to hear this news. My deepest condolences to Danielle's family and friends. I know Danielle from quite a while back (1989-90) when we were bothing working in Crans-Montana, Switzerland. I was a teacher at the Le Chaperon Rouge school and she was taking care of two London boys there. Despite all our travels (or perhaps because of them), we never actually met up again anywhere in the world after that year. Still, it was wonderful to keep in touch with Danielle as she had such an incredible sense of fun and adventure. Love and blessings to you all. Hana (originally from Sarnia, Ont., living in Hong Kong)
Danielle's courage and determination were an example to all of us. Her beauty and love of friends and family touched our hearts. We who knew and loved her are blessed with wonderful memories and are diminished by her passing. We hope and pray that her soul has found a special place beside God's throne.
My deepest condolences to your family. Suzanne you are in my thoughts at this time. I was very saddened to come across this news of your daughter. You talked so highly of her when I worked with you. I hope, in time, you will find peace and happiness in wonderful memories. Donica
Sue, Dan and Family: Words are inadequate at this sad time but be assured our thoughts and prayers are with you. We have fond memories of Danielle as that little girl who grew into a beautiful woman. She was indeed, one of a kind. We are sorry we can't make to express our condolences in person. I certainly want to he there but circumstances dictate otherwise. Hugs all around from your old friends. Carolyn and Bruce.
I didn't know Danielle but I worked with her father for many years at The Free Press. We looked alike and the cafeteria ladies were always calling me Dan. If Danielle was like her father she would have been a wonderful person.I haven't seen Dan in probably 20 years but when I saw the obit I felt I had to tell you all how sorry I am. She obviously was as well-respected as the guy who looks like me.... I'm very sorry....don murray

It is reflecting on Danielle's many successes that gives her loved ones deeper understanding of the purpose of life. What she achieved speaks louder that what she could say. Maria Grigore and family
