Donna Jean Whitton
May 29, 2011
WHITTON, Donna Jean (Rasmussen) – Born in London, ON, March 19, 1933. Passed away May 29, 2011 at University Hospital with family by her side. Predeceased by her parents Hans and Gladys Rasmussen, her brother Eric and her nephew Greg. Donna is survived by her husband of 56 years, Wells, and her beloved children Jim, John (Tina), Bob (Donna), Sharon Lea (Tom), and Dave (Brenda). Also survived by her grandson Adam, her sister Janet Rasmussen, her niece Michelle and her nephew Derek. Donna lived in London all her life, graduating from South Collegiate and the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing. After nursing for a short while she retired to raise a family…and what a great job she did…a loving, compassionate, caring mother. After the kids were on their own she worked at Sandy’s Flowers for a number of years. Starting in 1996 she and Wells enjoyed several retirement years together until she was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. She dealt with the disease with her usual quiet courage, dignity and grace. We would like to offer special thanks to her devoted doctor, Dr. Cathy Peckan, to the Alzheimer Outreach Services at McCormick Home, to Cheshire’s Supports for Daily Living program and to the doctors and nurses at University Hospital for their help and their loving care for Donna. It was much appreciated. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at the WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, on Saturday, June 4th, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Outreach Services at McCormick Home or to the Alzheimer Society-Research would be appreciated. The sweetest, kindest person, and so much a mom. So quick with a "dear" or a hug. I've joked in the past, if you went on wikipedia and enter "mom," the picture illustrating the article would be of her. She's left so much as her legacy. So many lives, so many futures. That will speak of her, every day.
Donna was a wonderful lady with a wonderful family. We're all thinking about you at this time. Love Kym, Chuck and Veronica Lambert
John, Tina and Whitton Family: Although we never met your Mom we could tell from the wonderful and gentle nature of John that he came from a caring and loving family. You always spoke of your Mom with such respect and devotion. Please know we are thinking of you and your family. Sending lots of hugs. Ian, Cindy and Hannah McPherson.
At this time of sorrow please know that you are in my thoughts and prayers. Although the world has lost a kind, gentle and loving person, the angels in heaven must be rejoicing to receive her home again. I am happy she is freed from the ravages of Alzheimers Disease. I will treasure my memories of Mrs. Whitton -- her gentle nature, her readiness to laugh and her interest in everyone. She was so proud of her children and was a very special person. My life has been enriched knowing her. Wishing you joy in the wonderful memories you have of her. Love, Sue
