Cyze, Michael 'Mike' F.

Cyze, Michael 'Mike' F.

January 29th, 2020

Peacefully, with his family at his side at St. Joseph’s Hospice, London, Ontario, we said goodbye to Michael ‘Mike’ F. Cyze on Wednesday, January 29, 2020. Michael was born in Paris, France in August 1938. Mike left an impression wherever he went because of his joy of life and sense of humour. As an educator, his enthusiasm shone through all aspects of his life. Mike’s career spanned from being a high school teacher and then vice principal, followed by working in the Ministry of Education as a superintendent in the Ottawa region, and then as Director of Education for the Western Ontario region, and later with the Sarnia French-language Catholic School Board. He cherished nature in all its forms. An avid gardener, Mike loved to sail and to be out in nature. He had a soft spot for every pet or animal he met. Most of all, however, Mike valued his friendships and was passionate about his family. He leaves a legacy of memories, silly times and heaps of love. Mike will be missed and remembered by his wife of 59 years, Marie; daughter Chantal (Greg); son Michael (Heather); grandsons: Alex (Maggie), Jason (Emily) and Blake; and great-grandsons Peter and Henry. For all their help and care, we wish to thank Dr. F. Rubab, Dr. A. Lazo-Langner, the staffs of Middlesex-Elgin VON, Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, LHIN, and Victoria Hospital Cancer Clinic and Hematology, and the wonderful volunteers and staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice. A private family funeral service will be conducted. A memorial reception for friends and family will be held at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, on Monday, February 3, 2020 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of Mike are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice or the London Regional Cancer Program.

Heather Locking-Cusolito To the family of “Mr. Cyze” Some teachers affect you for a lifetime. While I cannot remember a whole lot about Grade 10 geography at Woodroffe Highschool in Ottawa in the 60s I certainly remember my teacher-his enthusiasm, his sense of fun and the way he connected with teenagers. At a reunion held in 2010 Mr. Cyze’s name came up more than once. Now that is a legacy! Wishing you all peace and consolation. I have no doubt that his was a life well lived. Heather Locking-Cusolito
Nicole McKinnellDear Marie, What a great sadness to learn of Michael's passing. As you go through difficult times, the beautiful memories you hold in your heart will hopefully alleviate some of the pain. What an honor it was to work for your dear husband in Sarnia. Michael was well liked by everyone. I have never heard a bad word about him. You knew when Michel was in the building! Never a dull moment when he was around! What a great leader he was and a very fair man. Michel lived a full and happy life I am sure. Unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the funeral. Doug's health does not permit him to travel and I cannot leave him alone. We will always have great memories of Michael. He was a great man. Sincere and deepest sympathies to you dear Marie and your beautiful family. Sending hugs and prayers. Doug and Nicole McKinnell
Peter WeygangI am so saddened to hear that Michael has died. He was a great leader of the WORO office, where he taught me to write as a true bureaucrat! We shared a love of the north, where he would often take long canoe trips. I always envied his artist talent. I shared a few magical hours with him in his studio, where his imagination, and skill, produced such wonderful works of art. He painted a colourful path in my life, for which I shall be eternally grateful. Peter Weygang
