Raj and Suha VelamoorSuha and I are shocked and stunned to learn of Raj Harricharan’s untimely and premature passing ! We enjoyed having breakfast with him a few months ago in Cancun. It is so very difficult to come to terms and make sense of this tragedy that is unfair and unjust. Our heart goes out to his three daughters and hope and pray that they will find the strength and courage to cope with this profound loss. They can draw some strength from knowing that his friends, colleagues, patients, teachers, indeed the community of London , share in the loss and grief of their dear father. They can be proud that he left a significant mark in the social and academic life of London and will be part of the hallowed memory of our community. A Life Well Lived. May his soul remain eternally in peace as he joins his beloved wife Indira .

Carol McDanielRaj and I were proud of our Caribbean heritage and often lamented the the performance of our cricket team. He was over the moon when the we finally beat England a few weeks ago. He and Indira reared three loving, gracious daughters with whom it was a joy to converse. Raj remained faithful to Indira’s memory to the end and always spoke fondly of her. I sought his advice on personal and professional matters and he always had encouraging words of wisdom. He was respected by so many for his calm, respectful and unflappable nature. He was a good clinician and his academic and administrative work contributed to the huge success of our programs. Richard, Adam and I have been reflecting on the ways in which he touched our lives and the fact that he improved the lives of so many. Safe travels Raj!

Josie and familyI don’t know how I will survive working without Raj. He has kept us all going and advocating on a daily basis for his staff and his clients, always going above and beyond. Raj was never afraid to speak up and advocate for what was right. The last almost 16 years working with Raj has taught me so much and changed who I am and how I treat our clients- the memories are endless. He’s not only been a colleague but a friend to my family and I and we will be lost without him. You will be in our hearts forever xoxoxo
Laura Powe and John MahoneyI had the absolute pleasure of working with Dr. Harricharan last year as a resident. Our friendship and mentorship continued way past those three months. He took John and I out for a wonderful dinner at the end of the rotation - it was such a fun night of good food, wine and conversation - I will not forget it. After the rotation, when I was in the A2 area of the hospital, I often dropped by his office for a smile and a chat. He was a major support for me, a person I often turned to for advice. He was there for me, no matter how busy he was or what "crisis" was going on at the hospital. He deeply cared about his patients, his students, his colleagues, and the department. John and I extend our deepest sympathies to his three daughters, his family, and everyone who also had the pleasure of knowing Raj.
Donald GalbraithI first met Raj when he was a Resident at St. Thomas Psychiatric Hospital. He was a delight to have in the program, and it was a joy to follow his clinical and academic success over the years. His care for patients and colleagues was unmatched, and his departure far too soon. Someone described Raj as a "sweet" man, and for me that best described his bubbly personality. It was always great to meet him and renew acquaintance. God bless the family at this difficult time. it was always delightful to see him from time to time over the years and renew acquaintance.
Merio and Fermina Camarra The good that he did was felt and appreciated by all. May God bless him and hold him to his care. He was greatly loved by us all.

Elena EllisI had an opportunity to round with Dr. Harricharan ( we referred to him as Dr. H ) at the Dearness Home for a few months while we awaited our new Social Worker. And oh what a beautiful, humble, patient, kind man with a warm infectious smile.!!!I look back and think what an honour and privilege I had to work with such man. We would go around to see the residents in the home and it was amazing to see the smile he would put on the faces of even our most agitated residents and hold conversations with residents who barely spoke . I would often teased him and tell him Dr. H. you would probably think, we are making up stories about residents because the residents presented so differently to him (Oh how they loved his ties!!) There were days Dr. H would be weary , I would tell him you need a break every now and then, but he kept saying the department is short, or he had to teach or attend some meeting- he was so dedicated to his work. So to lighten up things we would talk about our Caribbean heritage in between residents visits , exchange recipes and after rounds he would often say I am running to "Ricks" to get the ingredients to cook as his daughters are coming over . How he made time for everyone and everyone , I will never understand. On his last visit to the Home he came in brightly dressed with a yellow jacket and colourful tie and I said oh Dr. H you just came to brighten our lives today and he said with a big smile "yes, yes". What a wonderful image of him in our minds he left us. To his Dear daughters , he loved you all so much . My deepest to sympathy to Sharada, Monisha and Sherain and to the other members of the extended family. The Dearness Home Staff and Residents will miss his warm presence, beautiful smile and will be ever grateful for all his years of hard work and patience with our residents and staff. Dr. H, though your time with us on this earth was short, you overflowed us with such warmth, love and kindness for a lifetime.
Kamla PersaudRaja was the ideal son, brother, cousin, uncle, friend and he was genuine in each aspect of his life. He had a very uplifting smile, softness in his voice and kindness in his actions. He would be missed terribly by everyone who had the opportunity to share part of his life, be it professionally or personally. Raja has indeed lived by my father's moto, " DO GOOD, SPEAK GOOD AND LIVE GOOD"! On behalf of Ganesh Persaud and family, we pray that Raja's soul takes birth in another home where he can share the joy, love and gentleness and he lives on forever in the hearts of those he touched. To the lovely daughters, Sharada, Monisha and Sherain, Sister Pabs and the entire family, we pray that the Divine Lord guide you all and protect you always and remember Raja will continue to reside in your hearts. Darlene HarperThere are no words to truly express the sadness I feel upon hearing of Dr H’s passing. Raj was such a genuine, kind and caring man, always taking time to talk to patients and staff alike ... always making everyone feel special. Such a role model to all Mental Health staff and such a loss for the PEPP program. All of us in Mental Health felt privileged to enjoy Raj’s wisdom and we delighted in his company and hospitality. He always talked of his “girls” with such love and pride. Wishing his three daughters strength and comfort in the days ahead, knowing how much their father meant to so many. I was honoured to know him.

Priya Sharma and Rajesh GuptaMy family and I were shocked and deeply saddened to hear about the loss of this truly gentle soul. I recall really getting to know Dr. Harricharan as a 4th year medical student when I had the opportunity to complete a rotation under his supervision. Dr. Harricharan radiated warmth, compassion and as many here have already remarked, he always wore the most genuine smile. The way he interacted with everyone he came across--from fellow staff members to his patients, was something that I have tried to emulate as a physician. It was evident that Dr. Harricharan cared deeply for his patients, his friends and his family members. I'd like to offer my deepest condolences to his wonderful daughters and his entire family. May you have strength at this time. We have lost an amazing physician, mentor, teacher and a remarkable human being.

Michelle Ngo and Aziz HaqueDr.Harricharan was part of our fondest memories as medical students and residents. He made a point of making us feel special with his genuine interest in our wellbeing and his caring hugs. We will never forget when he said we were like his “little brother and sister” since he was too young to be our Dad! We will always remember him for his dedication to patients and trainees. Dr. Harricharan was such an integral part of the PEPP team that made a lasting impression on us. Our hearts go out to his family.

Sreelatha VarapravanI hesitated to write anything here as it is not possible to pen the feelings. It feels surreal to know that the soothing voice, the twinkling eyes, the hearty laugh and the warm embrace of this gentle soul is gone forever. Truly, Raj lived life fully, inspired every one he met, left a legacy behind and a vacuum that can never be filled. It was an honour, privilege and blessing to have known Raj. I just realized how incredibly lucky I was to have had Raj as my mentor. Praying for strength and courage to his 3 beautiful daughters- Sharada, Sharain and Monisha and all the friends, family, patients, students, colleagues and the countless lives he touched.
