Derksen, David

Derksen, David

January 3rd, 2019

Passed peacefully in London, Ontario, at St. Joseph’s Hospice, on Thursday morning, January 3, 2019, in his 77th year. He has arrived home to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ, whom he loved and trusted. He leaves behind a legacy of grace, and a vibrant love for the Lord as shown by his care for others throughout his life. He also leaves behind a family that was privileged to know and love him; wife Esther, son Richard, son Paul (Ali), grandson Jonas, sister Linda, brother Marvin (Barbara), and brother Ken (Barb). He was a committed, loving husband, and devoted to his family. David earned his master’s degree in Biochemistry from the University of Western Ontario, and enjoyed his career work as a laboratory technologist at London Health Sciences Centre. David will be remembered for his resonant singing voice, thoughtfulness, grace, joy, and above all, his spirit of appreciation and wonder. He will be sorely missed. The family wishes to thank Dr. Scott McKay, the staff from LHIN homecare services, and the staff at St. Joseph’s Hospice for their compassionate care during David’s illness. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 p.m., at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, where a memorial service will be conducted on Tuesday, January 8, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. Private family interment at Forest Lawn Cemetery. Those wishing to make a donation in memory of David are asked to consider St. Joseph’s Hospice.

Margaret (Ronald) JonesDear Derksen family, My sympathy and prayers are with you as you live through the loss of you father, husband and our beloved brother-in-law. His gentle and caring ways were an example to us. His love for his Savior and Lord moved us closer to the One we, too, love and try to serve. David served in whatever place he was found and did it well, supported faithfully by Esther. Their sons are our joy as they carry out the principles practiced by their parents, David is now in a better place and praising the Lord who loved and gave His life to save Him. His Savior prayed to have with Him those whom his Father had given him, that they could behold His glory. David is now there and beholding that glory with totally clear vision.

Elmer ThiessenDear Esther and family: Thank you Esther for letting us know about David's passing. It came as a shock as I hadn't realized how sick he really was. May his Lord and Saviour and your Lord and Saviour bring you comfort in these days. David was a dear and faithful friend since we met at MBBC. He was a bestman at our wedding but did not limit his role to this one event. Nearly every year on or close to our anniversary date we would get a letter or phone call from David asking us how we were doing and then wishing us the best in the coming year. I am sure he was quite unique in how he understood the role of a bestman! But that was David, caring, loving, and faithful. And his love of Jesus was so genuine - always an inspiration to me. May he rest in peace. Thank you my dear friend. I will miss you. Elmer
Irene LangemanDear Family; I have many memories of the Derksen family, and count my friendship with Linda as a privilege. I remember David as a gentleman, and enjoyed our conversations when he delivered groceries to our house many years ago. May God bless and comfort you as you celebrate David's life. He is in that better place- his "Fathers House".
Jacob WillmsDear Esther & family, We are deeply sorrowed to hear of David's passing. Our Prayers are for you & your family to find comfort in the Lord whom David loved & served so faithfully. When I called David just before Christmas, I sensed his failing health , but did not expect his death to come so quickly. David was a faithful friend and always found time to call me on my December birthday and chat about the good old times & always wish me a year of good health and encouraged me . These calls will be missed a lot. David was in our wedding party as a true & trusted friend whom we always appreciated & later learned to know you, Esther, & appreciate your friendship as well. Will be thinking of you & praying for you & your family in the coming days . Unfortunately & with deep regrets, we will not be able to attend the funeral service as we are now at our Florida home for the winter. We are grateful that David is no longer suffering pain and is enjoying time with his Lord & Saviour. Sincerely in Christian love Jack & Charlotte Willms

Dale WakemI looked forward to going to work to see Dave because I could always count on his smile, gentle nature and his positive attitude. He always remained calm when work got crazy which tended to calm the rest of us. I have missed both Dave and Esther at our Lab luncheons. Our group is getting smaller every year, now there is one more empty seat. I am saddened that Dave is gone but joyful that he knows heaven as his new home. I know he will be there waiting for the rest of us. Wish you well dear friend.
MaryanneDear Esther and family, Loved ones are only a memory away and we all have many heartwarming ones of David’s many attributes. His smile and caring disposition will be greatly missed. You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Paul & EuniceDear Esther and family We send our deepest sympathy at the home-call of David. He was appreciated as a dear friend, who took a keen interest in the work of the Lord both there in London, and also throughout the world. We appreciated his prayerful concern for us. He will certainly be missed. He was a godly elder, with a real concern for the Lord's people and the Lord's work. We trust that the Lord will comfort and sustain you all in your loss. But we are thankful that for David it is far better, at home with the Lord he loved and served. Paul & Eunice
