Murray, Dorothy Marie

September 12th, 2018

Dorothy peacefully passed away at Victoria Hospital, London, on Wednesday, September 12, 2018, at the age of 55, with family by her side. During Dorothy’s long struggle with cancer, she always remained positive and determined to fight. Dorothy will be lovingly remembered by her husband Ross of 34 years; daughters, Melissa Kaups (Paul) and Jessica Trela (Adam); and grandson Dallas Kaups. She was raised in Abercrombie, Nova Scotia by her parents, Patsy and Ray Christensen, along with her sister Darlene, and brother Danny Christensen. Dorothy will be fondly remembered for the loving and educational environment she provided for many daycare children over the years. Her happy place was always in her sewing room; crafting, quilting and completing projects brought her much joy. During her illness, she completed many projects for the patients in cancer treatment. Family and friends will be received on Friday, September 28, 2018 from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. (Eastern time), at WESTVIEW FUNERAL CHAPEL, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario, where the funeral service will be conducted at 1:00 p.m. (Eastern time). The service will be streamed live to the R.H. Porter Funeral Home, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia. The family would like to thank the Palliative Care Unit at Victoria Hospital for their care and compassion. Book of Condolences

I.T.Today a butterfly flew by me. You come into this world as a cocoon And blossom into this beautiful butterfly and fly off to see the world. What you don't realize butterfly as you flutter through your days Is how you touch those around you in your calm and gentle way. She fluttered her wings toward me one bright September day, As if waving good-by as she headed on her way. She looked very happy and content, as if to say to me, "Don't worry, I'll be okay". I was sad to see her go, for she touched my heart in such a way that I knew my life would never be the same. She left an imprint of the beauty that life has to offer, And I knew each time I saw another butterfly I would remember our moment in time. Thank you beautiful butterfly, I will be a better person All because you flew by me one bright and sunny day. You will be sadly missed.

Gerry and RegTo Ross and girls our heartfelt condolences. To Ross directly - a more supportive spouse Dorothy could not have asked for! I am certain that every day she smiled larger, walked taller and fought harder knowing you were there at her side on this most arduous journey. Love transcends all boundaries. To my sister Patsy, Ray, Danny and Darlene - all our love and prayers rest with you. Throughout this epic battle Dorothy always carried herself with a quiet dignity reminiscent of her grandmother Bestemor. Make no mistake - her inherited steel like resolve would reveal itself to fight whenever necessary. However we are now at the moment of letting go. Helen Keller said: What we have once enjoyed and deeply loved we can never lose, for all that we love deeply becomes a part of us. Blessings upon you Dorothy - until we meet again!

Heather AndersonPlease accept my heartfelt sympathy on Dorothy’s passing. Although we did not keep in touch often in our adult years, I have many fond memories of the fun we shared in 4-H club events, crafting and sewing together (with Dorothy’s projects turning out perfectly and mine rather lumpy), cheerleading, camping at Seafoam and just hanging out together doing girl stuff. Dorothy was a wonderful friend and I particularly will remember her each year when I unpack my kravlenisser at Christmastime. May you find comfort knowing that she is now at peace.

Lynn CharronRoss, Jessica, Melissa and family, Meeting Dorothy has truly been a gift in itself. Dorothy has shown kindness and patience to anyone she has met. While fighting to live her life she has also tried to make other people’s life better, making hats for cancer patients and quilts for others. Everything she has made was a labour of love, love for others that she didn’t get the chance to meet. I will always remember her kind words when I struggled and the hugs she gave freely. Dorothy you will always be missed. Ross and family if there is anything you need don’t hesitate to ask. Rest in the peace you so deserve Dorothy, you fought long and hard til the end.

Even with all that was going on with her, she was a joy to get to know. Her kindness and friendship was so appreciated by us. She was an amazing source of strength of will and energy. Her many craft skills that she happily shared with others were incredible. We were blessed to have her in our lives even for a short time & will truly miss her.
